Arista Networks is seeking a Senior C++ Software Engineer to join the OpenConfig team, responsible for building a dynamic, programmable data center infrastructure using software-defined networking principles. You will work on Arista's networking operating system, architected from the ground up around three core principles: state orientation, open standards-based approach, and single software image consistency.
The role focuses on contributing to EOS (Extensible Operating System), which uses a unique multi-process state-sharing architecture that separates state information from protocol processing and application logic. This design provides module independence, self-healing resiliency, and multi-process software stability—a distributed systems approach applied across the network.
Key aspects of the work include:
- Developing components within a state-oriented publish-subscribe architecture that manages system state and data through a central database
- Contributing to an open-source-based approach built on an unmodified Linux kernel, maintaining full access to Linux shell and utilities
- Ensuring consistency across Arista's single software image that runs on physical platforms, virtual machines, and containers
- Working with modern DevOps practices, Linux containers, and automation tools like Ansible and Terraform
- Collaborating with an engineering team focused on data-driven, client-to-cloud networking for large data center, campus, and routing environments

Requirements:
- 5+ years of fluency in C or C++ programming
