You will join as a Senior Brokerage Operations Associate focused on building Alpaca's Canadian brokerage operations. This is a high-impact individual contributor role where you design scalable, automated, auditable workflows that Product and Engineering teams can build against. You will partner closely with the ACCC President/UDP, Compliance, Product, Engineering, and global Operations teams.
Your responsibilities span the full brokerage lifecycle: account onboarding and lifecycle management; trade capture, affirmation, clearing, and settlement; custody and asset servicing including segregation and corporate actions; books and records reconciliation and exception management; registered accounts and tax operations (TFSA, RRSP, RESP); and day-2 production operations including runbooks, vendor interfaces, and business continuity playbooks.
Key initiatives you'll own include: launching Canadian brokerage operations with CIRO-aligned processes; defining partner broker workflows for account and asset servicing; automating settlement and corporate actions through CDS; building registered account and tax compliance workflows; and establishing production-ready documentation and escalation procedures before client volume arrives.
You will work with an automation-first mindset, redesigning high-volume and high-risk processes for straight-through processing and rules-based exception handling. You'll also prototype AI-assisted operations (exception triage, reconciliation investigation, SOP support, control testing) with appropriate human oversight. Success is measured by launch readiness, STP quality, control effectiveness, and systems others can run—not by headcount or heroic spreadsheet work.
You influence through deep expertise, crisp documentation, and decision logs rather than formal authority. You'll coach cross-functional partners and leave knowledge embedded in systems and processes, not siloed in one person.
**Requirements:**
- 10+ years of hands-on Canadian brokerage operations experience at a CIRO dealer, carrying broker, custodian, clearing firm, or brokerage operations function
- Deep fluency in clearing/settlement, custody, CDS/CDSX, fails, corporate actions, tax, cash/securities operations, account servicing, and introducing/carrying arrangements
- Demonstrated depth in at least two of: clearing/settlement; custody & asset servicing; books & records/reconciliations; registered accounts & tax
- Regulatory literacy in CIRO, provincial securities, and CSA context; ability to design operable controls (not compliance sign-off owner)
- Proven track record shipping process and tooling changes that stuck, not just running business-as-usual
- Practical experience with automation and AI (workflow automation, rules engines, RPA, AI-assisted ops); judgment about where AI helps vs. where controls must remain deterministic
- Exceptional written communication: SOPs, RACI matrices, decision logs, and requirements that cross-functional teams can execute against

- Greenfield Canadian dealer/clearing/custody stand-up experience
- API-first or broker-as-a-service/correspondent platform background
- US and Canada dual-entity operations
- Deep CDS/CDSX or Canadian market infrastructure experience
- Registered-account or Canadian tax-ops stand-up (TFSA, RRSP, RESP, tax lots, withholding, reporting)
- AI-native ops workflow experience using tools like Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT, or custom agents for SOP drafting and prototyping
