MaverickX is seeking a Senior BioProcess Engineer to lead process development and scale-up initiatives for novel biologics manufacturing. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with team leadership and cross-functional collaboration. Key Responsibilities: - Lead in-house process development and design of pilot-scale (100–1000L) fermentation equipment; develop production processes for initial feasibility field trials - Assist in selecting equipment and designing intermediate-scale (5–10KL) and commercial-scale (10–50KL) manufacturing facilities - Collaborate with discovery research teams on process development for unique microorganisms producing novel products - Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis of upstream and downstream process challenges; implement process improvements - Conduct data analysis of upstream and downstream process data; manage deviation investigations, CAPA, and change control - Lead cross-functional teams to resolve complex problems while meeting quality, schedule, and cost objectives - Build and mentor high-performing teams; develop strategies to maximize engagement and ensure timely product delivery - Partner with Quality to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements - Travel to customer offices, field sites, other facilities, and industry events as needed - Willing to work extended hours when required Required Qualifications: - PhD with 4–6 years of Biologics Process Development, Engineering, or Manufacturing experience, OR MS with 6–8 years in the same domain - 2+ years of supervisory or leadership experience managing small teams, leading projects/programs, or directing resource allocation within Process Development and Manufacturing teams Preferred Qualifications: - MS or PhD in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related technological field - 10+ years in Biotechnology/Biopharmaceutical process development or pilot-scale/commercial manufacturing - Demonstrated ability providing engineering expertise to cross-functional teams (manufacturing, quality, supply chain) on complex projects and technical problem resolution - Strong background in microbial physiology, fermentation, downstream processing, and scale-up from small-scale to pilot and commercial manufacturing - Experience preparing manufacturing documentation (SOPs, Production Batch Records) - Proficiency in process data compilation, analysis, interpretation, and experimental planning; ability to present to cross-functional and senior management teams - Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills - Team player with analytical and leadership capabilities - Ability to work independently and mentor junior team members
