As a Senior Backend Software Engineer, you will be a core technical contributor within your squad, responsible for building reliable, scalable, and user-focused products while mentoring engineers around you. Your responsibilities include:
- Understanding and framing user and product problems, leveraging product knowledge to deliver simple, pragmatic solutions
- Leading significant technical deliveries end-to-end: problem definition, design, implementation, testing, and production operation
- Investigating and resolving complex production issues using monitoring, observability, and data analysis tools
- Designing and evolving robust solutions, identifying performance, scalability, and reliability opportunities
- Bringing deep expertise in major parts of the stack while quickly becoming autonomous on new high-impact initiatives
- Improving engineering practices across the organization through code reviews, pair programming, documentation, RFCs, and AI-assisted development
- Acting as a role model and knowledge-sharer, providing actionable feedback and helping the team improve technical skills
- Collaborating across teams, proactively unblocking technical topics and communicating progress and risks to stakeholders
- Contributing to the Pennylane tech community through technical content, onboarding, interviews, and community-building activities
The role is fully remote within Europe (maximum 2-hour time difference from CET). REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails (minimum 7-8 years)
- Technical expertise combined with strong product and business understanding
- Ability to solve complex problems and care deeply about users
- Collaborative team player with clear communication skills
- Ownership mindset for delivering reliable, pragmatic solutions
- Comfort with complex problem-solving (European accounting domain complexity)
- Strong communication skills and ability to articulate ideas clearly
