Gong is a revenue intelligence platform that uses AI to help sales teams win. The company's Revenue AI Operating System unifies data, insights, and workflows for over 5,000 customers globally.
As a Senior Backend Application Infrastructure Engineer, you will design, build, and evolve the core Python libraries, frameworks, and services that power Gong's platform at scale. This is a foundational role focused on backend systems, distributed architectures, data infrastructure, and event-driven systems that enable engineering teams across the company to build reliable and scalable products efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain core Python infrastructure libraries and frameworks used across engineering teams
- Develop and support high-scale microservices and the shared foundations they run on
- Build reusable infrastructure capabilities for data access, messaging, observability, and service communication
- Drive engineering standards around performance, observability, security, maintainability, and production readiness
- Drive CI/CD processes, deployment automation, and cloud-native operational practices
- Solve performance, concurrency, and scalability challenges across mission-critical Python services
- Address data and infrastructure challenges across PostgreSQL, MongoDB, OpenSearch, Redis, Kafka, and SQS
- Debug production issues requiring deep understanding of runtime behavior (memory, CPU, I/O, process and thread behavior)
- Bridge architectural and operational gaps between Backend, DevOps, SRE, and Product Engineering teams
You will impact faster product development through strong infrastructure libraries, stable and scalable production systems, improved developer experience, and the long-term evolution of Gong's Python infrastructure and engineering standards.
Gong operates on a hybrid model combining work from home, on the go, and from the office. The company emphasizes ownership, transparency, and trust, with engineers empowered to influence architecture and engineering direction while working on meaningful technical challenges at scale.
Requirements:

- Strong hands-on experience with Python and modern Python service frameworks
- Experience building and maintaining shared libraries, including API design, versioning, backward compatibility, and packaging
- Deep understanding of Python's concurrency models (threading, multiprocessing, asyncio, GIL) and when to use each
- Solid understanding of operating system fundamentals (processes, memory, networking, I/O) and their effects on production services
- Hands-on experience with relational and non-relational data sources, including connection management and performance at scale
- Proven experience designing and operating microservices and event-driven architectures
- Strong experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Understanding of how platform foundations balance flexibility with consistency in multi-technology environments
- Ability to independently drive technical solutions end-to-end in a fast-paced environment
- Strong collaboration and communication skills for technical concepts across teams
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field
