simpleclub is on a mission to shape the future of learning for millions of students. We're undertaking an ambitious project: migrating our custom CMS (built on Firestore and trigger-based pipelines) to a modern, API-first headless CMS.
You'll join our team focused on training material and learning experience, developing a core domain responsible for delivering and managing all app content. You'll lay the foundation for future-proof, AI-ready API-driven content delivery.
Key projects include:
**Simulations:** Integrate internally produced 3D simulations and mini-apps deeply with core app features (progress, learning plans, tests).
**Permissions:** Deeply integrate our SpiceDB backend permission system as we scale to larger customers.
**Unified CMS:** Align internal content production with customer-facing tools so everyone benefits from shared work.
**Integrations:** Enable different education providers to sync and benefit from the simpleclub platform via SCORM/LTI connections.
Your responsibilities:
- Own backend features for AI-powered educator tools end-to-end: architecture, implementation, deployment, observability.
- Lead technical designs and ADRs for new and refactoring projects, ensuring stable, secure, and fast time to customer value.
- Integrate, experiment with, and continually improve how we work with AI (create and manage skills, loops, context files) in the context of these projects.
- Use agentic coding tools to refine, plan, first draft, and monitor as part of your daily workflow.
- Ship features collaboratively with Flutter engineers, PM, and designer in short cycles with tight feedback loops.
You'll work in a remote-first, multinational team with high autonomy, trusted to own technical solutions while supported by an experienced engineering lead. The culture emphasizes async-first communication, deep work, and collaborative feedback.
Tech stack: Node.js, TypeScript, Claude, Terraform, GCP (Firestore, Spanner).
**Requirements:**
- 7+ years of backend development on production systems. You've owned services, debugged incidents at scale, mentored engineers, and made architecture decisions you had to live with.
- Experience in product trios or similar setups where engineers shape the product, not just build what's specced.
- Daily use of AI coding tools. You can demonstrate your workflow, skills, context management, agent orchestration, and how you leverage them responsibly.
- Strong experience with NoSQL (Firestore) and relational databases (PostgreSQL/Spanner), especially schema migration and transformation tasks.
- Understanding of API design, caching, and high-performance content delivery.
- Clear, async-first communication. You write well, share context without being asked, and document decisions. English is the working language.
- Comfortable with asynchronous, event-driven systems (e.g., via Pub/Sub or webhooks).
