Creative Fabrica is a subscription platform serving millions of creators, designers, and crafters worldwide. The company offers Studio AI, a suite of 26+ specialized AI tools that automate technical work—generating custom images, removing backgrounds, creating fonts, and producing publication-ready designs. The content library contains 15+ million commercially-licensed assets. As a Senior Backend Engineer (Go), you will own the backend systems behind Studio AI's generation pipeline. You will work closely with other backend engineers, platform engineers, and Product to turn raw model output into a polished product experience. This role focuses on orchestration: coordinating expensive inference across media domains (images, video, audio, 3D, vector), handling partial failure gracefully, and keeping latency predictable under load. You will have significant technical freedom—sometimes picking up defined problems, other times given an objective and expected to define the architecture yourself. Key responsibilities include: - Design and scale Go microservices managing the full lifecycle of AI generation - Optimize ConnectRPC services and asynchronous pipelines (Kafka, SQS) for long-running, resource-intensive inference - Build backend logic for multimodal orchestration across media types - Work with AWS to manage large data throughput and integrate with high-performance storage and compute - Collaborate with external providers and Product to bridge model output and production UX - Make and document architectural decisions on concurrency, queueing, backpressure, and failure handling - Improve reliability and latency across the generation path; own observability - Own quality end-to-end: code review, testing strategy, on-call readiness - Integrate new frontier models into production workflows quickly and safely - Contribute to technical direction across the wider backend platform - Stay current with distributed systems, AI infrastructure, and model-serving developments Your overlap with the Amsterdam headquarters will mostly be asynchronous, so you should be comfortable working independently. Tech stack: Go, Kafka, SQS, gRPC, ConnectRPC, GraphQL, Postgres, AWS (EKS, S3, Lambda). REQUIREMENTS: - Extensive experience building and scaling backend services in Go in high-traffic, high-volume SaaS environments - Proven ability to design distributed microservice architectures, including asynchronous processing (Kafka, SQS), low-latency service communication (gRPC, ConnectRPC, GraphQL), and long-running/resource-intensive workloads with queueing, backpressure, and retry strategies - Deep AWS knowledge (EKS, S3, Lambda) alongside solid relational database skills, ideally Postgres: schema design, query performance, handling growth - Strong production discipline: observability, performance profiling, debugging live systems, code review, automated testing - Comfortable owning and documenting architectural decisions; good written and spoken English - Strong sense of ownership over reliability and quality; focus on actual user performance, not just elegant design - Pragmatic and self-directed; defines approaches without fully specified briefs, balances engineering quality against product goals, ships dependable systems at pace - Strong written communicator who documents decisions by default, takes direct feedback well, works effectively in distributed teams with limited real-time overlap NICE TO HAVE: - Media processing experience (video transcoding, audio synthesis, vector manipulation) - AI infrastructure experience: model serving at scale, GPU-accelerated workloads, integrating third-party/open-source generative models, compute cost optimization - Background in startup or fast-moving distributed environment with interest in shaping product direction Note: You must already be living in Australia or New Zealand to be considered.
