Thndr is Egypt's leading investing app (5.5M+ downloads, 40% of Egyptian Exchange transaction volume) expanding across MENA. You will join the Feed Squad, which owns the market data infrastructure serving live prices, statistics, charts, and asset data across Egypt, UAE, US, and soon KSA. The feed processes hundreds of thousands of price updates per second with sub-millisecond latency requirements. Nearly every downstream system depends on it: live prices users watch, price alerts, and limit order execution all rely on data arriving on time, every time. When prices arrive late or wrong, it directly impacts real money for real people.
Key responsibilities:
- Design, build, and operate feed services processing large volumes of market data with very low latency and high reliability across multiple markets.
- Own system SLOs, observability, and on-call operations. Build graceful failover when providers drop or infrastructure fails mid-market.
- Understand and optimize across multiple databases: Redis, ClickHouse, and PostgreSQL. Know when to reach for each.
- Own end-to-end infrastructure, including data ingestion from multiple providers per market, with redundancy to prevent single upstream failures from taking down the feed.
- Identify and steadily improve technical debt and reliability risks in your systems.
- Raise quality and operational discipline standards through code reviews, design reviews, and pairing with other engineers.
This is a foundational, high-stakes system where being fast and being correct are the same problem. You will work alongside some of Thndr's strongest engineers on unusually hard, unusually consequential problems.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong track record designing, shipping, and operating reliable backend systems in production used by large numbers of people.
- Real depth in distributed systems; clear understanding of keeping them fast and correct under load and under failure.
- Comfort owning systems end-to-end from design through production and on-call. You care about code behavior when providers drop or nodes fail, not just writing the code.
- Performance instinct: treat latency and throughput as first-class concerns, not afterthoughts.
- Familiarity with the stack or confidence to learn quickly: Python, C#, .NET Core, Golang, PostgreSQL, RabbitMQ, Redis, ClickHouse.
- High bar for correctness and operational discipline. You understand running systems where mistakes have real consequences for real people.
- Clear, candid communicator who can hold their own with other engineers and work closely with downstream teams.
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience building real-time performance systems where latency and throughput are critical.
- Experience with ClickHouse or similar OLAP databases and query/schema optimization patterns.
- Fintech, brokerage, trading, or other regulated, high-stakes domain experience where correctness and timing matter.
- Experience operating hybrid infrastructure (on-prem and cloud).
