Epidemic Sound is a global music licensing and content protection platform with 400+ employees across offices in Stockholm, London, New York, Los Angeles, Berlin, Paris, Oslo, and Seoul. The company helps enterprise customers manage copyright and licensing risks across social media and streaming platforms.
As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Content Protection team, you will design and build systems that protect customers from copyright litigation and licensing risks. Your mission is to ensure that paying customers never lose sleep over music licensing compliance. You will work on a highly collaborative, cross-functional team alongside data engineers, machine learning specialists, legal teams, and business operations.
Key responsibilities:
- End-to-End Ownership: Architect, build, and maintain critical infrastructure and monitoring systems for content protection and rights enforcement services.
- User Generated Content Monitoring & Optimization: Design and build high-throughput services that continuously fetch, parse, and analyze massive volumes of usage data from platforms like YouTube to monitor compliance and identify licensing violations.
- Data Analysis & Autonomous Improvement: Work directly with data pipelines to identify weak signals and missed cases. You will own problem discovery, make the business case for fixes, and ship solutions independently.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with ML engineers to develop advanced detection models and provide business operations teams with actionable, precise data for rights enforcement.
The role combines backend infrastructure work with data-driven problem-solving. You'll be responsible for systems that handle massive scale and real-time monitoring across multiple platforms.
Requirements:
- 6+ years of backend software engineering experience with a focus on designing and scaling distributed systems.
- Proven experience building high-throughput services and data pipelines capable of handling massive data volumes.
- Proficiency in modern backend languages (Python, Go, Java) and cloud infrastructure (GCP/AWS).
- Strong architectural mindset with ability to take full ownership of systems from design to deployment.
- Comfortable with agentic engineering.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with UGC platform APIs (YouTube, TikTok).
- Streaming technologies (Kafka).
- Prior collaboration with machine learning teams on data-driven detection tools.
