Ledger is the global platform for digital assets and Web3, securing over 20% of the world's crypto assets through its hardware wallets and software platforms. The company operates across multiple offices globally and serves both individual users and institutional clients through products like Ledger Live and Ledger Enterprise.
You will join the Cloud Wallet team, which builds and operates backend services powering blockchain account management, transaction processing, and on-chain data aggregation. Every client transaction and new blockchain integration flows through these services. The team emphasizes functional programming principles to build robust, scalable platforms and maintains a culture of continuous learning through knowledge-sharing sessions and open-source contributions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, build, and operate Scala services connecting Ledger wallets and the Enterprise platform to blockchain backends, handling account creation, operation history, transaction crafting, broadcast, and lifecycle tracking.
- Lead end-to-end blockchain integrations from design (ADR) through production, supporting account-based, UTXO, and privacy-preserving chains.
- Own production quality including SLIs/SLOs, observability, and distributed tracing; participate in firefighting rotation and resolve incidents including those from institutional clients.
- Define clear contracts with Coin Integration and Ledger Enterprise teams regarding service boundaries and data exposure.
- Write and review ADRs, challenge designs, and drive improvements in code quality, testing (including end-to-end on testnets), and technical debt management.
- Work with AI-native practices: use coding agents daily, write specifications and verification for safe delivery, and contribute to team AI tooling.
- Mentor other engineers and share knowledge across the Backend Blockchain community.
You will collaborate cross-functionally with Coin Integration, Ledger Enterprise, Wallet teams, Blockchain Platform, Infrastructure/SRE, Security (Donjon), and Product teams.
The company offers hybrid work (up to 3 days remote per week), health and life insurance, shareholder opportunities, commuter allowance, and comprehensive learning and development programs.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of backend engineering with real production ownership of distributed systems
- Strong production experience with demonstrated incident diagnosis and resolution across multiple services
- Interest in Scala and functional programming practices
- Hands-on blockchain integration experience: understanding of transaction lifecycle, fees, finality, reorgs across at least two of account-based, UTXO, or privacy-preserving chain models
- Experience with event-driven systems and data infrastructure (PostgreSQL, RabbitMQ, NATS or equivalent)
- Experience with observability tooling (Datadog or equivalent)
- Ability to read and contribute to TypeScript code in a polyglot stack environment
- Daily use of AI coding tools with critical evaluation of output
- Clear written communication in English, particularly for design documents and incident reports
