Airis Labs transforms user-generated content into actionable field intelligence for government agencies worldwide. The platform empowers frontline analysts with multimodal AI tools that extract clarity from unstructured, fragmented media.
The Speed team builds the production platform that runs Airis: the pipelines and orchestration that trigger AI models and coordinate services, the queuing and scheduling that move work between them, and the backend infrastructure that keeps everything fast and reliable at scale. The team also owns how the platform ships—packaging, install tooling, and CI/CD for both SaaS and on-premises deployments.
As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Speed team, you will write the code that powers this infrastructure. You'll design and build orchestration systems that fan work out to services and models, develop backends that handle throughput and latency requirements, and create systems that tie data pipelines together. The role requires strong architecture and design skills: someone who thinks and plans before coding, then delivers with precision.
You'll work on mission-critical systems that other engineers and services depend on. The team values execution, ownership, and healthy work-life balance with no hero culture. You'll have high ownership of your work and collaborate with a small team of exceptional people focused on fast execution and real impact—the platform is already in production and used by paying customers.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of hands-on Backend/Platform Engineering experience, with focus on distributed systems, data pipelines, and orchestration
- Proven track record designing, building, and delivering mission-critical backend systems that other engineers and services rely on
- Deep understanding of system coordination: queues, async flows, background workers, and service-to-service orchestration
- Architectural and scale mindset: experience analyzing bottlenecks, optimizing for throughput/latency, and making smart system design trade-offs
- Proficiency in Python for developing and supporting production-grade, industrial code
- Strong soft skills: excellent communication, team player mentality, and can-do attitude
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience building dedicated workflow or orchestration engines
- Hands-on experience with Async Python, message queues, worker systems, and high-throughput services
- Basic familiarity with Cloud (GCP), Kubernetes, and IaC (Terraform/OpenTofu)
- Exposure to observability stacks (e.g., Grafana, Loki)
