Abacum is a business planning platform for finance teams, founded in 2020 by former CFOs and backed by $100M+ in funding (Series B $60M, June 2025). The company automates financial reporting, enables collaboration, and simplifies planning and forecasting for enterprise clients including Dish Networks, Strava, BetterUp, and Kajabi. With 100+ employees across 30+ nationalities and offices in New York, Toronto, and Barcelona, Abacum is building the next generation of financial software.
As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Integrations team, you will lead the design and development of Abacum's integrations platform for ingesting, normalizing, and annotating business data from multiple sources. You'll architect and build bidirectional integrations with billing, accounting, ERP, commerce, and HRIS platforms, ensuring they are secure, resilient, and performant at scale while handling high-volume financial and transactional data.
Key responsibilities include:
- Move fluently across multiple programming languages and ecosystems beyond the core stack to read, adapt, and extend integration-specific code (ERP scripting frameworks like SuiteScript, native app extensions, third-party vendor SDKs)
- Work confidently with authentication and identity flows including OAuth 2.0/OIDC, SSO providers (Microsoft Entra ID, Okta, Google Workspace), SAML, and service-to-service authentication; manage token lifecycles and secure communication protocols
- Lead design and development of the integrations platform for data ingestion, normalization, and annotation
- Build and scale bidirectional integrations with major financial and operational platforms
- Architect low-code/no-code tools (connector builder, declarative DSLs, LLM-assisted workflows) and choose integration strategies to accelerate development and maintenance
- Establish technical standards and guide architecture for integrations and data-heavy systems
- Collaborate with product, design, financial experts, and customers to translate complex workflows into intuitive software
- Take operational responsibility for components you build
The role offers an opportunity to work in an agile environment with direct impact on product and users, supporting individual growth through challenging projects and hack time for skill development.
Requirements:
- 7+ years of experience, with at least 2+ years in integrations roles
- Strong background building integrations for data-heavy use cases
- Hands-on depth in Python and modern backend systems
- Experience architecting or working on integrations platforms, data platforms, or similar large-scale API ecosystems
- Curiosity and persistence in tackling ambiguous, high-stakes technical problems (low-code builder design, LLM-assisted workflows, data enrichment)
- Pragmatic judgment: knowing when to ship quickly versus when to invest in foundational architecture
