As a Senior Backend Engineer I, you will own complex, end-to-end engineering work items and serve as a technical anchor for your team. You will design and build highly reliable, secure, and scalable software solutions, contribute to architectural standards, and set a high bar for code quality through detailed peer review. You will investigate production issues across multiple services, drive learning from incidents, and actively participate in hiring.
You will own work items from concept through production, creating structured delivery plans and managing dependencies. You will partner with Product Managers to translate client requirements into technical specifications and confidently own incident resolution and post-mortems. You will mentor less experienced engineers, helping them develop technically and adapt to Thought Machine's engineering philosophy. You will also translate complex technical problems into clear concepts for non-technical stakeholders.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong proficiency in modern backend languages, ideally Go or Python
- Experience building distributed, cloud-native systems (Kubernetes, AWS/GCP, gRPC, PostgreSQL)
- Proven track record of breaking down ambiguous, complex problems into clear, deliverable milestones
- Experience supporting high-throughput systems in production environments and diagnosing complex issues across distributed systems
- Highly collaborative, feedback-receptive mindset
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to build consensus and document technical designs clearly
