Astucemedia is a global leader in real-time data visualization software for live TV, studios, sports venues, and immersive experiences. The company powers augmented reality graphics, virtual sets, video walls, and interactive overlays for major broadcasters and media companies including ABC News/Disney, NBC Universal, Fox Sports, CBS Sports, and others.
As a Senior Back-End Developer, you will design and maintain critical ingest services that connect to third-party APIs (REST, GraphQL, WebSockets, Webhooks) with idempotent ingestion, retry handling, and rate-limit compliance. You'll implement transformation logic to normalize heterogeneous data into unified JSON/Protobuf schemas, and design optimized storage solutions across SQL Server, MongoDB, and Kafka using best practices for indexing, partitioning, and time-series handling.
You will integrate with real-time event buses (RabbitMQ, MQTT, WebSockets) to deliver data updates with sub-second latency, and build/enhance APIs using the ServiceStack framework to expose data via REST, Webhooks, and Server-Sent Events with robust authentication (OAuth2/JWT). Performance and scalability are critical—you'll profile systems, implement caching strategies, and apply horizontal scaling techniques.
Collaboration is essential: you'll work closely with frontend and graphics teams (Unity, Vizrt, Unreal) to align API contracts and optimize for real-time rendering needs. You'll write comprehensive unit and integration tests to ensure data integrity and prevent regressions, and participate actively in code reviews, architecture discussions, and sprint planning within an Agile team.
The role is hybrid, based in Montreal's Old Port office.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Proficiency in C#/.NET Core (ServiceStack or similar frameworks)
- 8+ years of experience in API design and integration (REST, GraphQL, OAuth2, WebSockets)
- Solid understanding of data modeling and storage systems (SQL Server, MongoDB, Kafka)
- Familiarity with messaging protocols (AMQP, MQTT, WebSocket)
- Experience with schema validation and transformation (JSON Schema, Protobuf)
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, Git, and containerization (Docker)
- Strong debugging, problem-solving, and performance optimization skills
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience with broadcast/media data workflows (sports scores, elections, financial tickers)
- Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) for scalable deployments
- Familiarity with time-series data handling and caching strategies (Redis)
- Exposure to real-time graphics engines (Vizrt, Unreal, Unity) integrations
- Contributions to open-source projects or SDK development
