Relativity Space is building the Terran R launch vehicle to deliver customer payloads to orbit. The Avionics team is responsible for the full lifecycle of Terran R's electrical systems—designing, building, testing, installing, and operating the hardware that connects and controls every major electrical system on the vehicle and ground.
As a Senior Avionics Hardware Engineer focused on Power systems, you will design, test, and analyze custom electronics for the Terran R launch vehicle. You will oversee hardware development through the entire product lifecycle from concept to flight maturity, including initial design, board bring-up, design verification, qualification, initial flight production, integration, and vehicle operations. You will work with cross-functional partner teams across propulsion, guidance/navigation/control (GNC), fluids, and stage engineering to ensure seamless integration and operation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and developing power electronics and distribution systems for mission-critical avionics applications
- Conducting hardware bring-up, validation, debugging, and data analysis
- Managing board-level design from concept through manufacturing
- Collaborating with mechanical, thermal, electrical, and software teams to develop integrated electronics solutions
- Ensuring reliability and manufacturability of avionics hardware
- Supporting rapid iteration and feedback loops between design, manufacturing, and test
This is an opportunity to shape Terran R's fundamental avionics architecture with high degree of ownership on components that will fly. You'll be deeply embedded across functions and given autonomy to solve problems that haven't been solved before.
**Requirements:**
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in electronics designed for harsh environments and mission-critical applications such as launch vehicles, spacecraft, aircraft, or robotics
- Familiarity with eCAD software such as Altium or equivalent
- Experience with hardware bring-up, validation, debugging, and data analysis
- Experience with board-level design from concept to manufacturing
- Experience working with highly cross-functional teams (mechanical, thermal, electrical, software, etc.) to develop integrated electronics solutions
**Nice to have:**
- Familiarity with embedded software development and integration for avionics systems
- Experience with design for reliability and manufacturability of avionics hardware and systems
- Technical expertise in motor drives and control, DC-DC converters, load switches, high voltage DC electronics
