Clara is a leading B2B fintech platform for spend management in Latin America, serving over 20,000 businesses with corporate cards, bill pay, financing, and a powerful platform for scale. We are seeking a Senior Auth Engineer to own, architect, and build the systems that define how users exist and move within Clara's platform. This role encompasses authentication, authorization, identity, and access control across the entire platform. You will be responsible for architecting the identity layer, designing auth flows, managing the user lifecycle, integrating Auth0 with Clara's systems, and ensuring frontend and backend identity systems work seamlessly together. You'll be the go-to expert for authentication questions across engineering, and security will be a first-class concern in everything you build.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and building the identity and access layer that Clara's apps rely on, ensuring it scales as the platform grows, in partnership with the team's tech lead
- Owning authentication end-to-end: architecture, implementation, and Auth0 integration across frontend and backend
- Designing and hardening auth flows and the complete user lifecycle
- Serving as a strong reference on identity and access for the rest of engineering, solving hard auth problems that block other teams
- Setting and maintaining the security and quality bar on identity-critical paths through code reviews and design reviews
- Partnering with the tech lead and product team on the feasibility of auth-heavy initiatives, and identifying where AI tooling can accelerate work

The company operates a hybrid work model with flexibility, though you're expected to spend time in the office organically and be present most days during your ramp-up period.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 4+ years of software engineering experience with solid execution in production environments
- 2+ years of hands-on experience implementing authentication and authorization on a modern identity platform (Auth0 experience preferred; comparable platforms welcome; IAM depth is a strong plus)
- Full-stack engineering capability with backend strength; primary tech stack is Java and Spring (backend) and React (frontend), though strong fundamentals and ramp speed matter more than years in any specific stack
- Deep understanding of security best practices for web applications and secure software design in distributed architectures
- High autonomy, proactivity, and ownership mindset; you don't wait for direction and drive what needs to happen
- Genuine engagement with AI; you don't need to be an expert but actively experiment with AI tools in your work, stay current with the space, and are eager to apply it to how we build
- English proficiency and comfort communicating and collaborating on technical topics across geographies
