Extend is a fintech platform revolutionizing the post-purchase experience for retailers through AI-driven solutions for customer service, returns management, fulfillment, and fraud detection. The company works with over 1,000 merchant partners and is backed by prominent technology investors.
The Financial Systems Engineering team owns the systems and controls that ensure every dollar is traceable from inbound merchant data through operational and analytics databases into the accounting system and back out to obligor, reinsurer, and audit reporting. As a Senior Analytics Engineer, you will report to the Director of Financial Systems Engineering and own hands-on SQL and dbt work with real accountability for the logic that produces reported numbers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and maintaining invoicing and reimbursement logic that calculates what has been invoiced, what is due, and what is in error across contracts and claims
- Reconciling across systems with automated tie-outs between merchant data, operational databases, the warehouse, and accounting systems
- Driving variances to root cause and establishing source of truth on each side
- Building and maintaining financial models in dbt for revenue recognition, obligor and reinsurer reporting, and claim costs, with tests, documentation, and PR review
- Triaging reported data issues, quantifying impact, identifying owners, and tracking systemic fixes
- Validating claim and service order expense accuracy and extending automation across reimbursement paths
- Partnering on merchant configuration and supporting internal audits of data mapping
- Building standing financial controls for loss ratio and anomaly monitoring by merchant
- Investigating and correcting data against production APIs and partnering with engineering teams on upstream fixes
- Supporting internal and external audits with traceable, documented, reproducible results
Requirements:
- 4-6 years in analytics or data engineering, building analytical or financial models in dbt (or equivalent) under version control with testing and PR reviews
- Strong SQL skills: writing efficient, well-structured SQL against large financial datasets and tracing complex existing models to confirm logic matches business intent
- Reconciliation instincts: understanding source of truth, proving system agreement, and resolving breaks
- Comfort with financial data and understanding that errors reach invoices, auditors, or partners
- API fluency for investigating and correcting operational data
- Clear written communication to explain data to accountants and account owners, with ability to push back on requests that don't hold up
- Bias toward root cause analysis and automation
- Comfort with ambiguity and ability to shape work when the path is not defined
- Bonus experience: merchant reconciliation, warranty/insurance/service-contract programs, claims and reimbursements, order-to-cash systems, NetSuite, obligor and reinsurer reporting, or AI-assisted workflows for operational triage
