Checkout.com is a global fintech payments platform powering over 10 billion transactions yearly for more than one billion shoppers. The company operates 20 offices across six continents and serves major clients including eBay, Spotify, Klarna, Uber, and Sony.
You will join the Permanent Controls team, a Second Line of Defence (2LoD) function within the Compliance department, based in Paris and Mauritius. Reporting directly to the Head of Permanent Controls, you will focus on the financial perimeter, exercising second-line control, independent oversight, and framework monitoring over the organization's finance domain.
Key responsibilities include:
- Control Design: Collaborate with stakeholders to translate identified risks into comprehensive second-line control plans, standards, and templates.
- First Line of Defence (1LoD) Enablement: Partner with operational teams to design, refine, and assess their control matrices, ensuring alignment with internal standards and regulatory expectations (ACPR, FCA).
- Execution & Testing: Formalize and execute permanent controls across critical financial perimeters, including regulatory reporting across global entities (France, UK, US), accuracy of financial data and accounting standards, reconciliations, internal financial processes and statutory compliance (including the Order of 3 December 2014), and safeguarding mechanisms (flow of funds, compliance with safeguarding measures, timelines, and incident monitoring).
- Reporting & Escalation: Present detailed control findings and anomaly reports to leadership; track implementation of remediation recommendations.
- Proactive Continuous Improvement: Identify operational control gaps, propose practical solutions, and drive improvements to the overall control framework.
- Tooling & Automation: Contribute to implementation and optimization of automated control tools, tracking dashboards, and recommendation monitoring systems.
The Permanent Controls team operates continuously as a trusted advisor and objective challenge to operational teams, proactively identifying vulnerabilities, standardizing control frameworks, and fostering a strong risk culture. This role is distinct from the Internal Audit (3LoD) function.
The company offers a hybrid working model with three days per week in the office to support collaboration and connection.
Requirements:
- 5 years of experience in Financial Audit, Internal Control, or Financial Reporting within financial services (banking, fintech) or payments industry
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and ACPR expectations strongly preferred
- Fluency in French and English required
- Proactive and autonomous mindset with ability to take ownership and anticipate control gaps
- Naturally curious with drive to understand end-to-end business operations, data flows, and complex payment mechanics
- Rigorous and analytical with meticulous attention to detail and ability to leverage data analytics
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills with ability to influence decision-making across lines of defence
