Formlabs is seeking a Senior 3D Printing R&D Engineer to join its growing R&D team in Somerville, MA. The company develops cutting-edge 3D printing technology used by over 50,000 industry leaders worldwide, including Apple, Google, Tesla, New Balance, and NASA.
In this role, you will create new 3D printing techniques, from developing novel printer architectures to validating minute changes in Galvo control systems. You'll have the opportunity to lead projects and investigate emerging technologies while tackling complex, open-ended problems across multiple engineering disciplines. Your work will involve designing and conducting experiments, using results to inform hardware and software improvements, evaluating current printer performance for optimization opportunities, and partnering with other engineering teams to implement enhancements—such as redesigning support structure algorithms based on experimental findings.
You will work within a multidisciplinary R&D team of mechanical, systems, and software engineers who develop and maintain the Formlabs printing process. The role emphasizes systems thinking, hands-on engineering, physics-based problem-solving, and experimentation to transform ideas into reliable, beautiful products.
