Expel is seeking a Security Solutions Engineer to serve as the technical backbone of its Customer Success organization. In this role, you'll be the escalation point and trusted technical resource for Customer Success Managers, Technical Account Managers, and Technical Support Engineers when they encounter complex technical challenges. You'll troubleshoot intricate issues, perform root cause analysis, and deliver solutions that help customers maximize value from Expel's platform.
You'll collaborate closely with Security, Detection & Response Engineering, and other Engineering teams to develop deep expertise in Expel's platform architecture, integrations, detection strategies, and security operations capabilities. A key part of your impact will be translating technical knowledge into documentation, enablement materials, and repeatable solutions that help the broader organization scale. You'll identify documentation gaps, create and maintain internal and external knowledge resources, and help enable Customer Success teams to answer common questions independently.
The role requires a "the buck stops here" mindset—you take ownership of complex problems, balance being a trusted technical resource with helping others become self-sufficient, and contribute to improving operational processes for how technical requests are tracked, escalated, resolved, and documented. You'll occasionally join customer conversations when deeper technical expertise is needed, and may travel to customer sites (generally not exceeding 20%).
What makes this interesting: You'll work with a wide variety of security technologies, platforms, and customer environments while deepening expertise in managed detection and response (MDR), security operations, and the broader cybersecurity landscape. You'll be surrounded by experienced security practitioners and engineers, with hands-on exposure to complex technical challenges that require creative problem-solving.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of experience in the cybersecurity industry, ideally with exposure to technical troubleshooting, security operations, or consultative customer-facing roles
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills with ability to independently investigate and resolve complex technical challenges
- Technical depth in one or more security technology areas: EDR, NDR, SIEM, cloud security, or related security platforms
- Solid understanding of detection strategies, security operations workflows, and technical tradeoffs of different security solutions
- Familiarity with common attack vectors, threat tactics and techniques, MITRE ATT&CK framework, and the broader attack lifecycle
- Working knowledge of the cybersecurity landscape, including security products, service providers, and their relative strengths and limitations
- Understanding of security controls across common operating systems, cloud environments, and enterprise technologies (Windows, Unix/Linux, AWS, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, network infrastructure)
- Experience with ticketing, case management, or operational workflow platforms (Zendesk, ServiceNow, or similar)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical practitioners and business stakeholders
- Consultative approach to problem-solving: active listening, thoughtful questioning, understanding underlying issues before recommending solutions
- Sound judgment prioritizing competing requests, managing challenging conversations, and knowing when to escalate
- Collaborative, curious mindset with genuine interest in learning, sharing knowledge, and continuously improving work processes
- Awareness of how security challenges and priorities differ across customer industries and environments
- Bachelor's degree or relevant security certifications are a plus but not required
