Proxima Fusion is Europe's fastest-growing fusion company and the continent's best-funded fusion player, backed by over €650M. As a spin-out from the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics, the company is developing hardware and infrastructure for the world's first commercial stellarator fusion power plant, with operations across Munich, Zurich, and Oxford.
As Senior Security Engineer, you will own comprehensive security implementation and monitoring—both digital and physical—for a company protecting some of Europe's most valuable fusion intellectual property. This is a hands-on role with significant technical depth and strategic impact.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and operating the SIEM platform, determining alerting thresholds, and managing alert fatigue
- Owning incident response end-to-end: investigation, post-mortems, and remediation
- Hardening the environment across endpoints, EDR, identity and access, network, and infrastructure
- Implementing and maturing Zero Trust architecture with unified identity, device posture, and MFA
- Managing edge cases arising from rapid growth and contractor access
- Securing the Google Workspace environment where most IP resides: DLP, data classification, retention, and context-aware access
- Securing the software supply chain in collaboration with the platform team: source control, access boundaries, secrets, and CI/CD
- Running vulnerability and attack surface management, driving remediation across teams
- Setting and monitoring physical security standards with Business Operations across multiple locations
- Providing technical substance to compliance work: evidence, remediation, and audit/pen-test support
The role sits at L2/L3 of the company's framework and offers the opportunity to grow as the company scales—headcount is expected to roughly 5x in coming years with major technical milestones ahead.

- 5+ years hands-on security engineering with real depth in identity, endpoint, and infrastructure
- Experience building or substantially operating a SIEM and running real incidents end-to-end

- Strong knowledge of Google Workspace Enterprise security (or equivalent platform expertise)
- Automation-first mindset: proficiency with Terraform and scripting (Python, Bash, or PowerShell)
- Fluency in CIS Benchmarks, NIST, ISO 27001, and NIS2
- Ability to translate technical findings into business impact and actionable solutions
Nice to have:
- Interest or track record in AI security
- Hands-on cloud and container security (GCP, containers, Kubernetes)

- Experience in regulated, export-controlled, or high-security environments where physical and digital security intersect
