Supabase is the Postgres development platform built by developers for developers. We're seeking a Senior SDK Engineer - Python to own how developers interact with Supabase from Python environments, including backend services, data pipelines, notebooks, and AI agents. You will build and evolve the Python SDK across database, auth, storage, realtime, and edge functions, supporting both sync and async APIs. This is a library-authoring role where work happens in the open: public repositories, public issue trackers, and API decisions with lasting consequences. Key responsibilities include: - Building and evolving the Python SDK with natural-feeling sync and async APIs - Identifying gaps and building new features independently - Triaging inbound issues, reviewing external contributions, and maintaining CI/release automation - Owning the typing experience with full type coverage and checker-friendly design - Testing across multiple Python versions, sync/async frameworks, workers, serverless, and notebooks - Implementing realtime features including websocket connections, reconnection logic, and subscription semantics - Tracking platform changes across auth, realtime, storage, PostgREST, and edge functions - Writing RFCs, migration guides, release notes, and public design documentation - Ensuring the SDK is legible to AI coding agents You thrive in async, fast-paced environments and get satisfaction from type checkers catching bugs before users do, from well-designed async clients, and from healthy issue trackers. Requirements: - Deep knowledge of modern Python typing (generics, protocols, overloads, TypedDict) with strict type checking discipline - Published library authorship or maintenance with a public API and external users - Open-source maintainer experience: issue triage at volume, PR review, release automation, changelogs, semver, security handling - Fluency in asyncio with opinions on serving both sync and async callers - Python packaging expertise: pyproject.toml, wheels, modern tooling, version support policy, dependency management - Testing as habit: unit, type-level, and end-to-end testing against real stacks - Strong writing skills for design docs, changelogs, and public issue replies - Demonstrated autonomy in finding, scoping, and shipping work - Clear communication across technical and non-technical audiences - Experience in async or globally distributed teams - Comfort navigating ambiguity and moving quickly Bonus: major-version migrations for public packages, JWT/OAuth knowledge, AI agent framework integrations, or idiomatic client generation from schemas.
