Salary: USD 148,400 - 219,700 / annual
Altos Labs is seeking a Scientist or Senior Scientist to join the In Vivo Translational Sciences team within Drug Discovery and Development Sciences. The company's mission is to restore cell health and resilience through cell rejuvenation to reverse disease, injury, and age-related disabilities.
In this role, you will lead the full lifecycle of in vivo pharmacology studies across multiple therapeutic programs, from design and protocol development through execution, analysis, and interpretation. You will provide in vivo pharmacology and physiology expertise to support the progression of therapeutic candidates in a fast-moving research environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and execute in vivo pharmacology studies in both mice and rats, including survival surgeries to establish rodent models using aseptic technique
- Select pharmacodynamic and target-engagement readouts and contribute to translational strategy
- Develop, characterize, and implement new animal models, including models of fibrosis and age-related pathologies
- Evaluate and implement new technologies, platforms, and best practices to enhance study efficiency and quality
- Conduct downstream ex vivo analyses as needed
- Maintain detailed documentation in electronic lab notebooks to ensure data integrity
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across discovery biology, pharmacology, assay sciences, DMPK, and technology development
- Ensure all work meets IACUC-approved protocols and uphold ethical standards
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, ownership, and inclusion
You will work primarily in a lab/vivarium environment, including occasional weekend support for study needs.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Ph.D. in biological sciences
- Minimum 3–5 years of industry experience in drug discovery and development (Scientist level); 6+ years for Senior Scientist level
- Extensive expertise with all aspects of in vivo rodent research: various dosing routes, anesthesia, surgical procedures, necropsy, tissue processing, etc.
- Strong commitment to animal welfare and 3Rs-centered experimental design
- Excellent communication skills for collaboration with internal teams and external CRO partners
- Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Creative thinking, proactive, solution-oriented mindset; ability to design, troubleshoot, and refine complex in vivo studies
- High-level problem-solving ability with strong analytical thinking and data-driven decision-making
- Hands-on experience with molecular and cell biology techniques: RNA/DNA extraction, PCR, Western blot, ELISA, small molecule/biologic assays
- Willingness and ability to work in lab/vivarium environment for majority of working hours
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working across diverse therapeutic modalities: small molecules, biotherapeutics, nucleic acid therapeutics, gene therapy
- Experience analyzing age-related diseases/deficits in animal models: fibrosis, inflammation, metabolic disorders, neurodegeneration
