Salary: USD 123,100 - 166,500 / annual
10x Genomics is seeking a Scientist 1 to join the Single Cell Biology group in a hands-on role focused on developing and optimizing single cell assays. You will execute molecular biology work to develop, test, and refine 10x single cell workflows, and support advanced troubleshooting for internal teams and customers. Working in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment, you'll collaborate with colleagues in Molecular/Cell Biology, Chemistry, Fluidics, and Computational Biology.
Key responsibilities include:
- Perform standard and custom experiments to develop, test, and improve single cell assay workflows, including sample processing, library preparation, sequencing, and data analysis
- Prepare high-quality NGS libraries using established molecular biology protocols
- Contribute to the design, testing, and troubleshooting of new assay components and existing systems
- Master existing tools and defined protocols, and identify opportunities for improvement
- Conceive of and develop new tools and methods to support assay development
- Analyze and interpret experimental data to draw conclusions and determine next steps
- Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, Support, and Marketing to advance assay development priorities
- Contribute to project plans and sub-task timelines for assigned workstreams
Requirements:
- B.S./M.S. or Ph.D. in chemistry, molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or related field
- B.S. with 4+ years, M.S. with 2+ years, or Ph.D. with 0–2 years of relevant biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry experience
- Hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques, including nucleic acid extraction, PCR/qPCR, and NGS library preparation
- Direct experience with Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) workflows and standard molecular biology techniques
- Experience with experimental design and statistical data analysis
- Ability to perform complex multi-step experiments with diligent attention to planning, organization, hands-on technique, and record keeping
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with ability to manage competing priorities
- Desire to work in a flexible, fast-paced environment
Preferred qualifications:
- Hands-on experience running 10x single cell assays
- Experience working with challenging clinical sample types (e.g., FFPE tissue, primary tumor cells, low-input samples)
- Familiarity with the product development lifecycle, including new product introduction and formal product testing (verification and validation)
