Anduril Industries is a defense technology company building advanced robotic systems for military force protection. The Sentry Tower Software team develops autonomous robotic systems—motors, cameras, radars, and sensor boards running on NVIDIA Jetson compute—that monitor perimeters and provide real-time situational awareness.
You will own the simulation and hardware test infrastructure that ensures whole-system reliability before deployment. This role bridges two critical testing domains:
**Software-in-the-Loop (SITL):** You will grow declaratively-defined multi-node virtual tower environments complete with simulated ground control stations, synthetic sensor feeds, and game-engine-driven worlds. These run full system scenarios in CI with no hardware attached, catching regressions before they reach the field.
**Hardware-in-the-Loop (HITL):** You will manage the physical test benches that drive real Jetson-based towers through provisioning, firmware flashing, system image installation, and automated result reporting via CI pipeline on nightly and weekend cadence.
The core infrastructure is in place; your focus is building the functional test suites, scenario libraries, and diagnostic tooling that transform a booting tower into a verified, production-ready system. You will design and own the CI integration end-to-end: scheduling, dependency chaining, artifact capture, result reporting, and flake triage. You will partner with hardware, firmware, and business-line teams to expand coverage as new compute generations, payloads, and product variants arrive.
This is a role where wins are invisible and failures are loud. You will chase intermittent failures to root cause, manage scarce shared hardware, and rebuild coverage when platforms change. The measure of success is bugs that never reach a tower in the field.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Own and grow SITL environments: add product variants and scenarios, keep simulated sensor and video pipelines faithful, maintain short test runtimes
- Build functional coverage on HITL bench: motion control, camera/sensor bring-up, firmware updates, network failover, power-loss recovery
- Own CI integration end-to-end: scheduling, dependency chaining, artifact/log capture, result reporting, flake triage
- Grow test platform as product line evolves: new compute generations, payloads, variants
- Make failures diagnosable without touching hardware: invest in log capture, serial console capture, test artifacts
- Partner with hardware and manufacturing engineers to specify and stand up physical HITL benches with fixtures, switching, power control, instrumentation
- Support firmware, platform, and business-line teams as they add tests against your framework
**Required Qualifications:**
- 4+ years professional software engineering with meaningful time building test infrastructure, CI systems, or simulation for hardware-involved systems
- Proficiency in Python for test authoring and automation; working ability in Rust or C++ to read and debug services under test
- Demonstrated experience automating tests against physical hardware: device provisioning, remote power/reset control, serial consoles, network booting, instrumented benches
- Strong CI/CD engineering skills including pipelines with expensive stages, hardware resource contention, scheduled execution
- Experience with declarative configuration and reproducible builds (Nix/NixOS preferred; Bazel, Buildroot, Yocto, Terraform, Ansible, Pulumi acceptable)
- Solid Linux systems fundamentals: systemd, networking, filesystems, boot
- Judgment to know which tests are worth their cost; discipline to fix or delete flaky tests
- US person status required; eligibility to obtain and maintain US security clearance
**Nice to Have:**
- Experience with robotics or vehicle simulation (Unreal, Unity, Gazebo, Isaac Sim, custom simulators)
- Familiarity with NVIDIA Jetson provisioning and flashing workflows
- Experience with virtualization and VM-based integration testing, including GPU passthrough
- Background in hardware test engineering, HIL rigs, or manufacturing test systems
- Familiarity with CAN, serial protocols, or bus-level diagnostic tooling
