Destro AI is building the intelligence layer for robotics—a coordinated system that manages robots, humans, and workflows across complex real-world operations. Founded by former leaders from HAI Robotics, Dexterity, and Matic, the company has solved the movement problem in robotics but is now focused on decision-making. MothershipOS is Destro's shared brain across all robots, unlocking complex factory and warehouse workflows by bringing global intelligence across entire operations rather than relying on local intelligence per robot. The company recently closed a Seed round at one of the highest valuations for a robotics company at this stage and is already deploying in production with large enterprise operators. As a Robotics Forward Deployed Engineer, you will own the software that runs MothershipOS in live customer warehouses. This is a field deployment role with significant on-site presence and off-hours responsibility. You will write and maintain production code (not solely troubleshoot), serve as the engineering presence during system bring-ups, stabilization, and restoration, and respond to production incidents including robot faults, network outages, and server failures outside normal business hours. Extensive travel to customer sites is required, sometimes on short notice. Key responsibilities include: writing, testing, and maintaining software services running MothershipOS at customer sites; designing and building internal tools for faster, more repeatable field deployments; translating field learnings into production-hardening fixes; maintaining technical documentation and runbooks; deploying and validating Destro's software stack in live warehouses; owning production issues end-to-end during launch and stabilization; improving uptime, throughput, and reliability through code and infrastructure changes; building and maintaining containerized services (Docker Compose) on Destro-managed servers and edge devices; working with GCP for image management and deployment tooling; configuring and troubleshooting networking (VLANs, DHCP, DNS, certificates); and debugging across the full stack from robot state faults to database queries and monitoring dashboards. This role requires comfort with being paged off-hours, traveling on short notice, and operating independently in ambiguous, high-pressure environments. You must be calm under pressure, direct with customers, and demonstrate strong ownership. REQUIREMENTS: - 2 to 6 years of experience in systems engineering, robotics software, backend engineering, infrastructure, or field engineering, with genuine software development experience (not field support alone) - Strong Python or C++, with ability to write maintainable, production-grade code - Hands-on Docker/Docker Compose experience: building, deploying, debugging, versioning images - Linux/server administration: command line, logs, processes, systemd, firewalls - Networking fundamentals: DHCP, DNS, VLANs, static IP reservations, TLS/certificates - Experience with APIs and communication protocols (REST, WebSockets, MQTT) - Proficiency with Git and standard software development workflows STRONGLY PREFERRED: - Experience with AMRs, warehouse automation, or fleet management - Cloud deployment experience, ideally GCP - Familiarity with observability tooling (Grafana, Prometheus, time-series databases) - WMS/WES/ERP integration experience NICE TO HAVE: - Experience with robot task allocation, scheduling, or routing - Experience with wearables, scanners, or other warehouse hardware
