Muon Space, an end-to-end space systems provider designing and operating LEO satellite constellations, seeks an RF Test Engineer II to join the Testbeds & EGSE team. This team builds Hardware-In-The-Loop (HITL) testbeds and electrical ground support equipment (EGSE) that enable satellite assembly, integration, and testing across all Muon missions. In this role, you will lead the design of future testbed infrastructure and next-generation EGSE while remaining hands-on in building and bringing up testbeds that missions depend on daily. You'll work at the intersection of multiple engineering disciplines—electrical, embedded software, mechanical, and industrial controls—collaborating directly with the electrical missions team to translate flight hardware designs into testbed parallels. Key responsibilities include: - Leading the design of HITL testbed infrastructure, including architecture, form factor, non-satellite hardware, and external interfaces - Designing next-generation EGSE used to power, command, and monitor satellites during integration and test - Translating block diagrams, schematics, and drawings from the missions team into testbed designs - Building, integrating, and bringing up testbed hardware alongside the team; supporting fleet operations - Creating and maintaining testbed architecture diagrams, interface definitions, and design documentation - Debugging hardware and interface issues across testbeds to root cause, working with electrical, software, and systems engineers - Coordinating with supply chain, production, and facilities teams on inventory, module builds, and support resources - Guiding junior engineers and technicians; driving testbed designs that scale with an increasingly capable satellite fleet This role requires onsite work at the San Jose location five days per week due to its hands-on nature. REQUIREMENTS: - 5+ years of hands-on experience with complex electromechanical systems, including 2+ years in test, testbed, or test-infrastructure development - Background in electrical engineering, embedded software, mechanical engineering, or industrial controls - Experience designing hardware (electrical, mechanical, or integrated systems) that others build and use - Experience using RF testing equipment - Ability to read and work from electrical schematics, block diagrams, and production drawings - Strong hands-on debugging skills across hardware and software interfaces, with standard test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes) - Scripting or programming ability (Python, Bash, or similar) - Understanding of electronics fundamentals and common communication interfaces (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet) - Excellent communication and teamwork skills; comfortable in fast-paced environments - B.S. in an engineering discipline or equivalent hands-on experience - Comfort in a Linux development environment Nice-to-have skills: HITL testbed or lab automation experience, Electrical CAD (Altium preferred), Mechanical CAD (SolidWorks preferred), industrial automation or rack-based electronics experience, aerospace or high-reliability industry background.
