Chai Discovery builds a design suite for molecules using frontier AI models that learn the foundations of biochemical structure and interaction. The company partners with leading pharmaceutical companies including Eli Lilly, Pfizer, and Novartis to power drug discovery programs.
As a Research Engineer on the Auto-Research team, you will develop and optimize agent-powered systems and frameworks that accelerate the research organization's velocity. Your work will focus on automating parts of the research loop itself, not just the models it produces.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and optimizing the agent-powered auto-research framework to improve model training velocity and accelerate inference and iteration cycles
- Building tooling, datasets, and workflows that enable agents and researchers to run experiments, evaluate results, and propose next steps with minimal manual overhead
- Automating real research workflows across the model lifecycle—training, evaluation, and deployment—to increase researcher throughput
- Designing software systems and abstractions that other researchers and agents can build upon
You will work at the intersection of AI research and frontier biology, collaborating with world-class researchers on a mission-driven team that values high velocity and ownership.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 4+ years of industry experience working closely with or within AI/ML research teams
- Proficiency in Python and familiarity with PyTorch or JAX
- Strong software system design skills, particularly around building tools and abstractions for researchers or agents
- Experience building agent-powered software systems
