Octus is a global provider of credit intelligence, data, and analytics serving hedge funds, investment banks, management consulting firms, and law firms since 2013. The Research Associate will join the Global Covenants team, supporting senior lawyers with research, drafting, and analysis focused on US leverage finance and high yield markets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as primary support for senior lawyers on day-to-day research, drafting, and analysis needs
- Develop comprehensive knowledge of Octus' Global Covenants offering (people, process, technology)
- Research, draft, and create legal intelligence on leveraged loans, private credit, high yield bonds, liability management exercises, and event-driven analyses
- Independently update covenant analyses as debt instruments evolve
- Handle subscriber inquiries and escalate complex matters to senior lawyers
- Conduct data extraction and trend analysis using proprietary databases, AI tools, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace
- Support sales and marketing initiatives including webinars, events, and training
- Lead or assist with administrative and operational projects
- Build bespoke AI-powered workflows to enhance legal research capabilities
This is a hybrid role based in Bogotá, ideal for a qualified lawyer with leveraged finance, capital markets, or restructuring experience who is genuinely interested in applying AI to legal research and analysis.
Requirements:
- Law degree from a licensed Colombian university, OR LL.M/J.D. from an American university with minimum four years' post-qualification experience (ideally at an international law firm or financial institution)
- Strong English fluency with business/legal terminology
- Strong writing and analytical skills
- Intermediate Excel and PowerPoint skills; ability to distill complex information into clear, visually appealing formats
- Intermediate to high fluency with AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) and ability to critically evaluate AI-generated output for quality and accuracy
- Demonstrable interest in finance, capital markets, and legal industries
- Outstanding organizational and time management skills with excellent attention to detail
- Proactive, collaborative team player with eagerness to learn
- Ability to multi-task and manage multiple deadline-driven matters
- Prior experience in leveraged finance, high yield, capital markets, restructuring, or credit research is a strong plus
