Salary: USD 140,000 - 200,000 / annual
General Matter designs, builds, and operates uranium enrichment services in the US, enabling low-cost nuclear fuel production for advanced reactors and critical industries. As a Reliability Engineer, you will own the reliability of General Matter's hardware systems. This is a hands-on, systems-level role embedded with the test organization. You will design and lead accelerated life test (ALT), life-leader, and component reliability test campaigns across hardware platforms. Your work spans the full lifecycle: translating requirements into test plans, executing campaigns, analyzing results, and feeding insights back into design to build reliability in from the start rather than discovering issues late.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and lead reliability test campaigns (ALT, HALT/HASS, durability, component testing)
- Develop test plans that map applied stresses to field conditions using acceleration models
- Perform statistical analysis to determine test article quantities, sample sizes, durations, and confidence/reliability targets (reliability demonstration, Weibull analysis, sudden-death testing)
- Define and allocate reliability requirements across systems and components
- Analyze test and field data to characterize failure modes, life distributions, and reliability growth
- Lead failure analysis and root-cause investigations; drive corrective actions to closure
- Develop and maintain reliability models and artifacts (FMEA/FMECA, reliability block diagrams, fault trees, life predictions)
- Work embedded with test engineering to execute campaigns, instrument test articles, and interpret results
- Partner with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to embed design-for-reliability (DfR) practices
- Establish reliability metrics, tracking, and reporting to give leadership visibility into hardware maturity and risk

REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Reliability, Industrial Engineering, or related field
- Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and ability to perform trade studies using first principles with partial information
- Proven experience designing and executing reliability test campaigns (ALT, HALT/HASS, durability, component reliability testing)
- Strong applied statistics for reliability: life-data (Weibull) analysis, reliability demonstration and sample-size determination, design of experiments (DOE), confidence intervals, acceleration modeling
- Proficiency with reliability and statistical tools (ReliaSoft Weibull++/ALTA, Minitab, JMP, Python, R)
- Experience with FMEA/FMECA and reliability modeling methods
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to convey technical information to diverse audiences
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
- Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary
PREFERRED:
- Evidence of exceptional ability (prior projects, portfolio, completed products)
- Experience in fast-paced engineering environments or highly technical roles requiring resourceful, entrepreneurial approaches
- Background in hardware-intensive industries (automotive, aerospace/defense, semiconductor, industrial equipment, energy)
- Experience building a reliability program or test capability from the ground up
- Familiarity with physics-of-failure methods and accelerated stress modeling
- Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) or similar certification
- Advanced degrees
