Teya is a Series C fintech building a financial platform for independent local businesses across Europe. The company provides simple tools, thoughtful design, and human support to help cafés, restaurants, salons, shops, and entrepreneurs manage their finances with confidence. As Regulatory Affairs Lawyer, you will join the Corporate and Regulatory Affairs team, reporting to the General Counsel and Head of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs. You will be the primary owner of Teya's regulatory strategy and public policy engagement across the UK and EU, working at the intersection of product development, compliance, and policy advocacy. Key responsibilities include: - Manage all licensing and authorisation work in the UK and EU, including new authorisations, variations of permission, passporting, and cross-border notifications. - Support the Compliance team in day-to-day engagement with the FCA and EU national competent authorities on applications, supervisory queries, and notifications. - Lead Teya's public policy work on behalf of independent local businesses, covering payments legislation, digital euro, digital identity, and other financial services regulation affecting SMBs. - Draft position papers, consultation responses, and briefings for policymakers; represent Teya in trade associations and industry working groups. - Manage Teya's participation in the Scale-up Unit, including agenda-setting, submissions, and outcome tracking. - Work closely with Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Product teams to address regulatory questions from product design through market entry. - Monitor regulatory and legislative developments in both jurisdictions and advise on strategic implications for Teya and the businesses it serves. You will work with external counsel, regulators, and trade bodies in London and Brussels, managing multiple workstreams simultaneously. Requirements: - Qualified lawyer in England and Wales with 4–7 years of experience in financial services regulation (in-house, private practice, or at a regulator). - Working knowledge of UK and EU financial services regulation and relevant policy developments in both jurisdictions. - Demonstrated ability to draft position papers, consultation responses, and internal advice in plain English. - Ability to manage multiple workstreams with external advisers and internal stakeholders to regulatory deadlines. - Interest in financial services, public policy, and improving the regulatory landscape for independent businesses. - Previous experience with FCA, PRA, or EU national competent authority licensing/authorisation work is preferred. - Demonstrable experience in public policy, regulatory engagement, and advocacy is essential.
