Salary: USD 90,000 - 132,000 / annual

Formlabs is seeking an R&D Engineer to join its growing research and development team focused on advancing 3D printing technology. The company's 3D printing systems power innovation at over 50,000 industry leaders worldwide, including Apple, Google, Tesla, New Balance, and NASA. In this role, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team of mechanical, systems, and software engineers to develop and maintain the Formlabs printing process. You'll research next-generation printers and materials, using engineering, physics, and experimentation to turn ideas into reliable products. Key responsibilities include: - Creating new 3D printing techniques, from developing novel printer architectures to validating precise changes in Galvo control systems - Investigating emerging technologies and their applications - Solving complex, open-ended problems across multiple engineering disciplines - Designing and conducting experiments, using results to inform hardware and software improvements - Evaluating current printer performance and identifying optimization opportunities - Partnering with other engineering teams to implement improvements, such as redesigning support structure algorithms based on experimental findings You will be expected to question assumptions and validate them with data, design and build test fixtures, and contribute to a culture of rigorous experimentation and continuous improvement. Requirements: - B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in an engineering field - Experience with experiment design and data analysis to inform design decisions - Ability to design and build test fixtures for experiments - Programming and scientific computing skills, ideally Python or MATLAB - Familiarity with mechanical design, mechatronics, and CAD modeling - Portfolio or website showcasing current and past projects Bonus qualifications: - Familiarity with manufacturing, regulatory, or product standards and compliance in healthcare, pharma, or life sciences - Experience with 3D printing technologies and materials
