Infleqtion is a global quantum technology company developing atom-based quantum computers, sensors, and networks to solve complex real-world problems. The company operates offices in the USA, United Kingdom, and Australia, with a mission to commercialize quantum products that deliver orders of magnitude improvements in performance and computing applications.
You will join as a Quantum Software Engineer focused on developing cutting-edge applications and algorithms for next-generation quantum computers. This is a full-time hybrid role based in the Kidlington and Harwell offices, with flexible working enabling up to 2 days per week remote work.
In this role, you will design, implement, and optimize quantum algorithms across domains including simulation, optimization, sensing-enhanced workflows, and hybrid quantum-classical computation. You will work closely with hardware, control, and research teams to translate theoretical advances into performant, executable workloads using modern quantum SDKs, compiler toolchains, and resource estimation frameworks. Key responsibilities include conducting R&D on quantum applications and algorithms, deploying software optimizations to the Superstaq cloud platform using industry-grade engineering practices (documentation, linting, testing, type-checking), interfacing with Superstaq customers to understand needs and provide timely support, contributing to government and commercial proposals, collaborating with experimental physicists and software engineers to bridge theory and practice, engaging with the scientific community through publications and conference presentations, staying current with quantum computing architecture and compilation developments, and providing guidance to team members.
The ideal candidate combines strong foundations in quantum algorithms and computational mathematics with practical software engineering expertise, enabling you to build scalable, testable, and high-impact quantum applications for both near-term and fault-tolerant quantum systems.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Master's degree in quantum applications, mathematics, engineering, physics, or directly related field (required)
- High proficiency in programming, with Python fluency preferred
- Experience with open-source quantum software frameworks such as Cirq or Qiskit
- Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with all organizational levels; professional-level verbal, written, and presentation skills
- Demonstrated ability to work comfortably in highly collaborative, cross-functional, team-oriented, and matrixed environments
- Ability to thrive and produce results in fluid, dynamic, fast-paced environments
- Demonstrated ability to learn new and complex topics quickly
- Resourceful problem-solver with demonstrated expertise in executing productization efforts
- Passion for solving complex problems in highly technical and scientific environments
DESIRABLE SKILLS:
- PhD in quantum computation, physics, computer science, or directly related field
