Salary: CAD 120,000 - 160,000 / annual
Xanadu is building quantum computers designed to be useful and accessible globally. The company's mission centers on developing technologies to solve some of the world's most challenging problems through quantum computing breakthroughs.
As a Quantum Software Developer on the PennyLane Core team, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining PennyLane, Xanadu's open-source framework for quantum programming. Your core responsibilities include:
• Design, implement, and optimize core infrastructure and APIs within PennyLane to ensure the framework scales seamlessly for increasingly complex, utility-scale quantum workflows
• Translate cutting-edge theoretical breakthroughs in quantum algorithms development into robust, production-grade software features
• Collaborate closely with Performance, Compilation, FTQC, Architecture, and Research teams to integrate advanced execution pipelines
• Actively participate in the open-source lifecycle of PennyLane, maintaining high standards for community contributions, documentation, and testing
You will work in a fast-moving, dynamic environment where you'll navigate uncertainty and master advanced scientific and technical concepts quickly. This is a new position offering the opportunity to contribute to foundational quantum computing infrastructure used by researchers and developers worldwide.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor's degree in Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or closely related technical field
• Demonstrated education, training, or professional experience in quantum computing, quantum information, or related field
• Proven experience in production-grade Python software development with focus on clean, modular, maintainable code
• Demonstrated experience with modern software engineering best practices: comprehensive unit testing, CI/CD pipelines, rigorous code review workflows
• Hands-on experience developing with or extending quantum computing libraries or machine learning frameworks (e.g., JAX, PyTorch)
• Demonstrated ability to translate complex mathematical or scientific descriptions (e.g., from academic research papers) into efficient, working software implementations
• Proven ability to navigate, learn, and master advanced scientific and technical concepts quickly with minimal direction
• Comfort working in fast-moving dynamic environments and navigating uncertainty
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• MSc or PhD in Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field with research focus on Quantum Computing or Quantum Information
• Experience architecting or maintaining large-scale software packages, complex APIs, or developer-facing toolkits
• Advanced understanding of machine learning libraries and their compilation internals (e.g., JAX, PyTorch)
• Proven contributions to core open-source scientific libraries, quantum computing frameworks, or PennyLane/Catalyst ecosystem
