Wonderschool helps expand access to high-quality early childhood education by providing software, tools, and support to childcare providers and government partners. We're seeking a highly technical, detail-oriented QA Engineer to lead quality across our government products, billing platform, and childcare provider solutions.
In this role, you will own the testing strategy and establish clear standards for release readiness across all products. You'll lead QA efforts while remaining deeply hands-on: investigating failures, writing automated tests, validating releases, and working directly with government customers. You'll build an AI-driven QA practice, applying AI tools to generate test cases, maintain automation, explore edge cases, and accelerate debugging while validating results and protecting customer and government data.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading QA strategy across Wonderschool and prioritizing high-risk workflows
- Building and maintaining UI and API test coverage, using SQL to verify data integrity
- Testing AI-powered products with repeatable evaluations for accuracy, consistency, and unexpected behavior
- Protecting billing accuracy by testing invoices, payments, refunds, calculations, reconciliation, failed transactions, retries, rounding, and duplicate charges
- Representing Wonderschool with government partners through stakeholder meetings, user acceptance testing leadership, and clear issue communication
- Translating product requirements and government acceptance criteria into test plans and documented results
- Collaborating with Engineering and Product teams through Scrum ceremonies to identify risks early and prioritize defects
- Tracking escaped defects, recurring issues, and test reliability to improve quality processes over time
You'll work in our Rincon Hill office (Howard and Beale) 5–6 days per week.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Hands-on QA or quality engineering professional with ownership from requirements through verified fixes
- Highly detail-oriented, curious, and persistent; able to notice inconsistencies and investigate edge cases
- Technical strength in test automation, API testing, SQL, debugging, and modern software development practices
- Comfortable using AI extensively and able to demonstrate how it improves speed and depth of work
- Clear communicator who works effectively with engineers, product teams, and government stakeholders
- Experience working in Agile teams and contributing to Scrum ceremonies
- Comfortable managing competing priorities across multiple products in a fast-moving environment
- Based in San Francisco or willing to relocate
- Experience with government systems, billing/payments, childcare software, and government-facing UAT is especially valuable
