Vivid Machines is building cutting-edge agricultural technology—real-time vision systems and AI models—to help fruit and vegetable farmers improve produce quality, quantity, and sustainability on existing acreage.
As an Intermediate QA Engineer, you will own the end-to-end Software Testing Life Cycle across the entire product stack: web applications, mobile apps, backend services, and camera hardware. You'll plan and execute tests, maintain regression coverage, write Python automation, and work closely with Product Owners to ensure acceptance criteria are clear, testable, and complete before development begins.
Key responsibilities:
- Sharpen requirements during backlog refinement; flag gaps early before test execution.
- Own the full STLC: requirement analysis, test planning, test case design, execution, defect tracking, and sign-off with traceability.
- Test across every layer: functional, exploratory, integration, and regression testing on web, mobile, and backend; validate hardware-software integration (device behavior, camera/sensor input, connectivity).
- Write actionable bug reports with steps, environment, logs, and expected vs. actual results.
- Build and maintain Python test suites (pytest, Playwright/Selenium, requests for APIs); integrate into CI/CD to reduce manual regression work.
- Set quality standards for the team: define test coverage expectations, review developer-written tests, enforce acceptance criteria coverage.
- Manage releases confidently: run smoke/sanity testing, write go/no-go reports, maintain test environments and data, track quality metrics (defect density, coverage, pass/fail trends).
- Self-manage your week: prioritize against sprint and release goals, investigate blockers, keep the distributed team informed via clear written updates.
The role is part of a small, distributed, asynchronous team that values excellence, integrity, curiosity, and decisive action. You'll have the opportunity to shape company vision, culture, and products as an early employee at a VC-backed startup.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 3–5 years of QA/testing experience with practical STLC knowledge.
- Hands-on manual testing across at least two of: web, mobile, or backend/API systems.
- Working knowledge of Python and at least one Python test framework (preferably pytest).
- Experience writing, maintaining, and enforcing regression and automated test suites; ability to review developer-written tests.
- Direct experience working with Product Owners or Managers to refine and validate acceptance criteria.
- Comfort reading basic hardware/device logs or working with hardware-in-the-loop test setups.
- Familiarity with bug tracking and test management tools (Jira, TestRail, or similar) and understanding of CI/CD concepts.
- Clear, structured documentation habits for test plans, defect reports, and release notes.
- Self-direction: ability to prioritize from backlog and release goals, investigate before escalating, raise risks early, and push back collaboratively on quality and clarity.
NICE TO HAVE:
- Exposure to embedded systems or camera/sensor-based hardware testing.
- Git workflows.
- Jira-based test management plugins and test suite tooling.
- Domain experience in agriculture, robotics, or physical-world systems.
