As a Production Hardware Test Engineer (Laser/Camera Test Engineer), you will own test activities in production and ensure stringent quality standards for systems shipped to customers. You'll work on fast-paced, highly technical, interdisciplinary teams, thinking creatively to solve difficult testing problems and continuously improve automation, throughput, user interfaces, and data analytics.
Key responsibilities include:
- Maintain ownership of test activities in production and production test flow; provide hands-on troubleshooting for complex infrared systems issues
- Maintain test capabilities across the manufacturing value stream, from system-level checkouts and acceptance testing to component-level in-process validation
- Generate test work instructions for technician teams in MES and train technicians on equipment use
- Develop a library of common failure modes with troubleshooting guides and diagrams for fast issue resolution
- Maintain and develop software for test automation, data analytics, and report generation
- Determine root cause of product failures and recommend corrective actions (RCCA)
- Work with Design, Quality, and Manufacturing Engineering teams to support customer returns and failure analysis
- Contribute feedback to early-stage test design for new product introduction (NPI)
- Analyze test data, document results, and provide detailed reports to identify defects and improvement areas
- Collaborate with design engineers to provide feedback and recommendations for product enhancements based on test outcomes
- Optimize test strategies for efficiency and effectiveness, reducing test time without compromising quality
- Maintain and calibrate test equipment to ensure precision and reliability
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance testing processes and methodologies
You should have a track record of successfully working on fast-paced, highly technical teams and be able to communicate effectively within and across teams to quickly resolve issues.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Physics, Electrical/Electronics, Computer, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields
- 3+ years of relevant industry experience with emphasis on manufacturing test and product sustainment
- Experience with data acquisition and processing using MATLAB, Python, and other programming languages
- Experience with test automation and report generation
- Strong root cause analysis skills for non-conforming hardware, software, and firmware
- Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Experience working on projects involving integration of electrical, opto-mechanical, and software/firmware systems
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of infrared systems, including performance requirements and verification methodologies
- Experience with cryogenic testing equipment
- Familiarity with test equipment such as power supplies, electronic loads, thermal chambers, function generators, spectrum analyzers, data acquisition and measurement sensors
- Experience with computer hardware communication protocols: USB, Ethernet, RS232, RS485, PCIe, HDMI, CAN, etc.
