Mecka AI is building the data infrastructure layer for robotics and embodied AI. The company designs and operates global systems for data capture, data labeling, and hardware-enabled workflows used by leading AI labs and robotics companies to train and validate humanoid and embodied AI systems.
As Product Engineer, Labs, you will build 0-to-1 products for Mecka's Labs team, launching new verticals across robotics, manufacturing, science, reinforcement learning environments and other technical domains. You will work directly with users and product colleagues to understand problems, ship initial solutions and improve them through use.
This is a generalist engineering role spanning frontend, backend and data. You will learn unfamiliar domains, make practical product decisions and own implementation through production, investigating how users work and what they need.
Key responsibilities:
- Build end-to-end workflows: develop user interfaces, services, APIs and data models, taking products from early prototype through deployment and ongoing use
- Work directly with users: observe workflows, identify bottlenecks and turn feedback into clear requirements, making complex tasks easier without losing critical information
- Connect tools and data: build integrations, imports and exports across unfamiliar systems, handling inconsistent inputs and validation errors
- Develop reusable components: identify common needs across products and build maintainable components that balance reuse with current problem needs
- Own reliability: test, deploy, monitor and support shipped products, investigate failures across the stack and improve performance based on production evidence
- Iterate with product judgment: scope useful releases, instrument workflows and assess whether changes help users, communicating technical tradeoffs
Requirements:
- 4+ years of engineering experience with shipped and maintained products across frontend, backend and database, with responsibility beyond initial demonstration
- Ability to build clear, interactive web applications with thoughtful handling of loading states, errors and complex user input
- Backend and data skills: design APIs and data models, integrate external systems, debug processing or storage problems
- Product judgment: turn ambiguous requests into useful first releases, work closely with users and revise approach based on evidence
- Adaptability and ownership: learn unfamiliar workflows quickly, investigate problems independently, communicate clearly with technical and domain experts
Preferred:
- Experience with data-intensive applications, media or document processing, or workflows involving human review
- Practical experience building AI-enabled products and evaluating their behavior in use
- Early-stage product development experience, including making and revisiting scope decisions with small teams
