OpenAI is hiring a Product Designer to join People Innovation Labs, a fast-moving engineering team embedded in the People organization. This team is rethinking how OpenAI finds and retains top talent while empowering employees to do their best work.
The team designs systems and products that give the People Team a competitive edge by infusing OpenAI's AI models and first-principles thinking into recruiting, culture, and organizational development. Projects range from greenfield 0-1 products like OpenHouse (an internal knowledge hub) to AI-powered automations and scalable recruiting tools. The role is fundamentally about defining the future of work at OpenAI and creating a blueprint for how AI can supercharge productivity, culture, and innovation.
In this role, you will contribute to the overall design and product direction for internal People products at OpenAI. You'll design and ship high-quality products and improvements, from early concepts through high-fidelity prototypes and visuals. You'll partner closely with engineering, product management, AI research, and design peers to define both long-term strategy and short-term tactics. User research will be a key part of your work—you'll engage directly with users to understand their needs and refine products accordingly. You'll also contribute to and evolve the design system and help establish design culture while growing the team.
This is an embedded role where you'll work directly with Product and Engineering to ensure your work drives measurable business outcomes. You'll be immersed in the AI research process and help define how AI-first products should look and behave.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 4+ years of experience shipping larger-scale software products
- Portfolio showcasing strong UX, UI, and interaction design skills with a high bar for quality and craft
- Strong ability to think through complex interaction design problems
- Impactful communication and storytelling skills
- Comfort tackling ambiguous problems and shaping them into clear vision
- Excitement about being immersed in AI research and defining AI-first product design
