Scope is building an AI-native data collection platform that automates documentation for the 2 billion field workers globally—inspectors, engineers, and technicians who currently spend hours manually collecting and reporting data. The company works with 6 of the top 10 players in industrial inspection, serving customers like AstraZeneca and SpaceX. Founded in 2024 from Entrepreneurs First, Scope has raised a $20M Series A led by Index Ventures. You will be Scope's first Product Designer, working as a true product engineer where design is your edge. You'll own the full user experience—from problem definition through visual polish—across mobile apps used in extreme field conditions (tanks, pressure vessels, chemical plants with thick gloves and no signal) and desktop reporting interfaces where AI and inspectors collaborate to produce complex 40-page reports. Key responsibilities include: - Visiting job sites with inspectors to test designs in real conditions, understanding constraints like one-handed operation and offline functionality - Owning the design of every product launch, including edge cases and empty states - Prototyping rapidly, including in code when it accelerates validation - Working alongside engineers during implementation to ensure design fidelity - Collaborating with Ish (Product Manager) and Jakob (CTO) to prioritize which problems to solve - Building a design system that enables engineers to ship high-quality work independently - Shaping how AI interfaces work in the product—deciding where AI helps versus where it creates friction You'll work in-person five days a week from the Farringdon office in London, embedded with a small, high-caliber team of founders and engineers from Imperial, Carnegie Mellon, Oxford, Goldman Sachs, Flexport, and Amazon. Requirements: - Minimum 3 years shipping products as a designer - Portfolio demonstrating the messy middle of design work, not just polished final screens - Deep expertise in mobile design details: touch targets, offline-first patterns, error handling - Informed perspective on where AI genuinely improves user experience versus where it's unnecessary - Willingness to go on-site and wear a hard hat to understand problems firsthand - Bonus: experience designing for industrial, field-work, or hardware contexts; ability to prototype in code
