Menlo Security is a browser security platform protecting organizations from cyberattacks across web, documents, and email. The company is expanding data-centric protection capabilities and seeks a Product Designer to own the end-to-end user experience for data loss prevention (DLP), file inspection and sanitization, sensitive data classification, and secure file handling workflows.
You will be a high-ownership individual contributor on a small design team, responsible for designing admin-facing policy controls, end-user file interaction flows, and risk/incident surfaces that make complex data protection decisions feel simple and trustworthy. Much of what you design sits on top of AI/ML-driven classification and detection systems, so a key part of your role is defining how automated decisions are explained, trusted, and overridden by users who depend on them.
Key responsibilities include:
- Own design quality and usability of data security and file security surfaces end-to-end: DLP policy configuration, file scanning and sanitization flows, sensitive data detection alerts, and quarantine/remediation workflows.
- Translate complex security and compliance logic (data classification rules, file-type policies, content inspection results) into admin experiences that are configurable without being overwhelming.
- Design interaction patterns that make AI/ML-driven classification legible to users: confidence and risk indicators, explanations for flagged files, and clear paths to review, override, or appeal automated decisions.
- Design end-user-facing moments (file download warnings, redaction previews, access requests) that balance security friction with productivity.
- Partner with product management and engineering to scope features, run customer discovery, and iterate through delivery using AI-assisted tools to synthesize research into prioritized insights.
- Extend the design system with security-specific patterns (risk indicators, policy builders, data flow visualizations), using AI-assisted prototyping to explore and test variations quickly.
- Mentor designers on the team and contribute to team-wide craft and process standards, including responsible adoption of AI tools in design workflows.
Success metrics include reduced admin time-to-configure for DLP policies, decreased support tickets related to policy confusion, increased design system component reuse, positive usability benchmarks from admin console testing, and strong cross-functional alignment scores.
The design team uses AI-assisted research synthesis and prototyping tools to move from customer signal to testable concept faster, and this role is expected to help set that practice.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 4+ years of product design experience, including B2B or enterprise application audiences
- Experience designing for technical or admin audiences (policy builders, rules engines, dashboards, configuration-heavy interfaces)
- Systems thinking: ability to map multi-step workflows with conditional logic and edge cases (e.g., policy conflict resolution, exception handling)
- Portfolio demonstrating complex, rules-based systems simplified into usable interfaces
- Proficiency in Figma and modern design system workflows
- Working fluency with AI-assisted design and research tools (e.g., LLM-based tools for synthesizing qualitative research or accelerating prototyping), with judgment to validate outputs before informing design decisions
Preferred:
- Experience partnering with product management and engineering in agile environments, including presenting design rationale to cross-functional and executive stakeholders
- Familiarity with data security or file security concepts (DLP, content inspection, sensitive data classification)
- Knowledge of AI/ML-driven products or AI security (prompt injection risk, AI-assisted threat detection, model governance)
- Experience mentoring or growing other designers
