First Table is a dining discovery platform that connects diners to restaurants across New Zealand, Australia, and the UK. The company has been operating for over a decade and is headquartered in Queenstown, New Zealand. First Table helps restaurants attract diners through early bird offers and last-table reservations, creating a win-win marketplace between diners seeking great dining experiences and restaurants looking to fill seats.
You will join an established Product & Technology team as a Product Designer, working alongside a Lead Product Designer, product managers, and engineers. This role focuses on improving experiences for both diners and restaurant partners on an already-successful platform with established design systems and strong product foundations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Own design projects from discovery and research through shipped, polished experiences
- Create engaging, intuitive, and visually polished UI across mobile and web platforms
- Design for both marketplace sides: diners discovering restaurants and hospitality teams managing bookings
- Collaborate closely with product managers and engineers to translate customer insights and business needs into practical design solutions
- Leverage customer research, usability testing, and product data to identify improvements
- Build on and contribute to the established design system, ensuring consistency, accessibility, and quality
- Explore new ideas, prototype solutions, and contribute to a culture of experimentation
You will have autonomy to own your work, challenge ideas, and explore opportunities. The role involves the full product journey from understanding customer behavior to seeing designs go live.
The company values Win-Win-Win thinking, ownership, and growing together. You'll work in a hybrid arrangement with flexibility to do your best work, supported by an established product environment with systems and tools already in place.
Requirements:
- Proven B2C product design experience, ideally in marketplaces, e-commerce, booking platforms, or consumer apps
- Strong portfolio demonstrating exceptional UI craft, interaction design, and shipped products
- Confidence across UX research, prototyping, and end-to-end product design
- Experience working with design systems and collaborating with product and engineering teams
- Curious, proactive mindset with strong communication skills and ownership mentality
- Note: You do not need to have built a product from scratch or led an entire design function; quality of work and ability to take ownership matter most
