DeepDrive is seeking a Process Engineer to develop and optimize manufacturing processes for electric motors used in robotics. This role bridges design and production, ensuring that innovative motor designs can be reliably manufactured at scale.
You will own the development of manufacturing processes for stators and rotors, from initial prototyping through validated production workflows. This is hands-on work: you'll spend significant time at the prototype line and on production equipment, not just at a desk. You'll plan and execute design-of-experiments (DoE), material studies, and parameter optimization trials. When processes deviate, you'll investigate root causes and implement corrective actions. You'll also build customer samples to consistent, documented quality standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop, optimize, and validate manufacturing processes for stators and rotors
- Set up, run, and maintain prototype machines and production equipment
- Plan and execute trials (DoE, material studies, parameter studies) and analyze results
- Analyze process deviations, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions
- Build customer samples with consistent, documented quality
- Create process documentation and contribute to PFMEAs, control plans, and test plans
- Collaborate with Design, Quality, and Industrialization teams to ensure new motor designs are manufacturable from inception
- Evaluate machinery suppliers and support Purchasing in supplier selection
The role is based at DeepDrive's headquarters in Garching and requires regular on-site presence. You'll work in a flat-hierarchy tech company with a strong team and opportunities for learning and development.
Requirements:
- Degree in engineering or qualification as state-certified technician or certified industrial master
- 3+ years of practical experience in process development for electric motors or comparable electromechanical products
- Hands-on experience with several of these process steps: round wire winding, insulation and impregnation, potting, rotor assembly, or electrical testing
- Ability to optimize process parameters and solve process issues independently
- Familiarity with PFMEA, MSA, and control plans; basic CAD skills
- Structured work approach, strong quality mindset, and genuine interest in hands-on machine work
- Experience with prototype or small-series production is a plus
- Fluent English required; German is a plus
