7AI is an AI-native cybersecurity platform founded in 2024 by Cybereason co-founders Lior Div and Yonatan Striem-Amit. The company pairs a federated SIEM with AI agents that detect, investigate, respond, and hunt threats, plus dedicated threat hunting and threat intelligence capabilities. As Principal Software Engineer (Cloud), you will help define the technical foundation of the AI-native cybersecurity platform. This is a 0→1 role with significant influence over both technology and engineering culture. You will lead system design for scalable backend systems, drive complex technical initiatives from concept to production, and mentor engineers across the organization.
Key responsibilities include: leading design of scalable backend systems; driving 0→1 technical initiatives including system design, strategy, implementation, and operationalization; partnering with product, AI, security, and platform teams to solve ambiguous problems; leading design discussions and providing technical leadership across multiple engineering domains; identifying and addressing technical risks and scalability bottlenecks; improving system observability, reliability, testing, and deployment workflows; shaping engineering culture through high standards for execution and collaboration; mentoring engineers through technical guidance and design reviews; and working effectively in a fast-changing environment with shifting priorities.
You will work closely with engineering, product, design, AI, and security teams to turn hard technical problems into solid solutions. The role emphasizes both hands-on technical leadership and organizational influence.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 15+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production-grade distributed systems
- Proven experience leading the design and delivery of large-scale, highly available cloud-native systems
- Strong system design expertise, including distributed systems, APIs, event-driven architectures, data-intensive applications, and infrastructure scalability
- Experience leading complex technical projects with significant ambiguity and cross-functional coordination
- Strong proficiency in one or more backend languages: Rust, Python, TypeScript, or Go
- Track record building systems on AWS, GCP, or Azure
- Strong communication skills, able to explain complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
- Comfortable and curious working with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience building AI-native products or integrating LLM/agent-based systems into production environments
- Background in cybersecurity, security operations, or high-sensitivity infrastructure environments
- Experience designing multi-tenant SaaS platforms at scale
- Familiarity with real-time data pipelines, streaming systems, and large-scale telemetry processing
- Experience in high-growth startup environments
- Track record building and scaling engineering teams, processes, and technical culture
