ServiceNow is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join the Strategic Initiatives team's new AI Center of Excellence, reporting to the SVP of Strategic Initiatives. This is a builder role focused on designing and shipping AI-native solutions—agents, assistants, and reusable skills—that advance the company's security mission and multiply team impact across the organization. You will be expected to work with frontier models and compose production-grade AI systems on top of them. Your responsibilities include: • Design, build, and bring to production AI agents, assistants, and reusable skills that solve real problems for ServiceNow and its customers • Turn ideas into working MVPs rapidly, then partner with engineering teams to harden them into reliable, production-ready systems • Build rigorous evaluation into everything you ship—define success metrics, measure quality, and maintain high standards before and after deployment • Compose agentic workflows that are secure by construction, using secure harnesses with appropriate isolation, guardrails, and controls • Select and integrate the right frameworks, tools, and models for each use case, then codify successful patterns as reusable best practices for the Center of Excellence • Contribute to the COE Consult team to support AI initiatives across the organization • Document solutions comprehensively, including usage, operations, and evaluation approaches This role requires deep expertise in modern AI application development—agent frameworks, tool use, prompting, retrieval, and evaluation—rather than traditional machine learning engineering. You will work in a distributed environment with flexible work arrangements. QUALIFICATIONS: • Demonstrated expertise in multi-agentic AI solutions • Proven track record shipping real AI solutions (agents, assistants, copilots, or skills) that were deployed and actively used, not just prototyped • Deep, hands-on familiarity with modern agent frameworks and developer tooling, including top-tier provider SDKs (Claude, OpenAI, Google), SKILL.md skills standard, and judgment about when to apply each • Strong evaluation discipline: building test sets, defining metrics, and measuring quality, safety, and reliability before and after deployment • Proficiency in Python and experience integrating APIs, tools, and cloud services (AWS, Azure, or GCP) with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience PREFERRED: • Experience in security or building AI solutions for security use cases
