As a Principal Software Engineer on the Frontend Experiences team, you will shape how developers build with Algolia and how customers experience the platform. You'll work across the entire frontend stack—from design-system primitives to product-level architecture—leading a multi-quarter effort to evolve the Algolia Dashboard into a coherent environment with new navigation, shared component foundations, and support for traditional configuration, conversational assistance, and agentic workflows.
Key responsibilities include:
- Defining the multi-year technical vision for Algolia's frontend platform and translating it into roadmaps for multiple teams
- Actively shaping the Algolia Dashboard's experience architecture, component strategy, and technical foundations for conversational and agentic UX
- Driving convergence on a shared component library to reduce duplication and inconsistent patterns
- Designing and delivering scalable, highly available, performant, and resilient solutions that work across pages and apps outside your control
- Owning solutions end-to-end from delivery through adoption by engineering teams and customers
- Shaping API design, versioning, and backward-compatibility strategy for public libraries used by a large developer community
- Serving as a technical expert and advisor to the team
- Setting engineering standards and best practices
The Frontend Experiences team is mission-driven to make it effortless for developers to build great search and discovery experiences on the front end with libraries, components, and tooling that are fast, accessible, and enjoyable to use. Work reaches customers and end users directly on web and mobile, so quality standards are high and feedback loops are short.

REQUIREMENTS:
- 10+ years of professional experience with a track record of setting technical direction across multiple teams
- Excellent communication and organization skills
- Proven experience as a thought leader/standard-bearer for engineers (talks, open source, writing)
- Demonstrated leadership on large, cross-cutting projects
- Extensive experience designing full-stack solutions, interacting with microservice architectures, and understanding APIs, backend services, and delivery infrastructure for sound end-to-end trade-offs
- Deep frontend expertise: TypeScript, modern web platform, React and other major frameworks, accessibility, bundle size, and runtime performance
- Experience designing and maintaining public libraries, SDKs, or design systems with strong API ergonomics and track record managing breaking changes
- Experience building complex, high-traffic, multi-product web applications (dashboards, admin consoles) and leading cross-team UI consolidation efforts
- Interest in conversational and agentic interfaces (chat, streaming responses, tool-driven workflows) and their supporting architecture
- Familiarity with search UX patterns and generative AI/agentic experiences is a plus
- Preference for candidates with experience at scale (10,000+ customers, $50-200M ARR, high growth, internal infrastructure building)
