True Link Financial is a profitable, mission-driven fintech company serving people whose financial needs are unmet by traditional institutions—including people with disabilities, older adults, and people in recovery. The company has earned recognition on the Forbes Fintech 50 and Inc. 5000 list for two consecutive years.
You will join a lean, senior product team as a Principal Product Designer, operating as a senior individual contributor reporting to the Head of Design. This is a high-autonomy role where you'll own design quality across two core business lines and act as a strategic design consultant.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead end-to-end product design for the Card Platform, including mobile UX iterations, new product expansions, and AI-powered features like receipt management.
- Support design needs for the Trust & Invest business, handling both micro-iterations and customer-driven solutions.
- Drive customer insight and research initiatives: identify critical questions, conduct customer interviews and usability tests, synthesize findings into clear design implications for near-term and long-horizon decisions.
- Serve as the team's strongest advocate for user perspective in cross-functional discussions, deepening customer understanding across the company.
- Operate as a senior design thought-partner for product and engineering leadership, shaping requirements rather than simply responding to them.
- Represent design in client-facing settings when needed.
- Produce polished design work using existing design patterns; maintain design coherence across a product suite serving multiple user types with different needs.
- Handle the full spectrum of design work: major new features, incremental iterations, mobile polish, and occasional supporting materials for sales.
You'll work day-to-day with product managers and engineering leads in a team of two designers, with high autonomy but strong collaboration. This role requires proactive identification of what questions need answering and translation of insights into design decisions that move the product forward.
Requirements:
- 8+ years of product design experience, particularly in lean team environments.
- Stellar end-to-end design capabilities: discovery, concept development, interaction design, and QA.
- Lead with the user: proactively generate research and insights rather than waiting for assignment.
- Experience designing complex, multi-user-type products where different audiences have meaningfully different contexts and needs.
- High collaboration instinct; ability to work effectively with product managers, engineers, and non-design stakeholders without compromising design integrity.
- Excellent judgment about process: knowing when to go deep and when to move fast.
- Comfortable presenting design decisions and rationale to senior stakeholders and external partners.
- Grounded in existing patterns and best practices; focused on continuous improvement rather than reinvention.
- Aligned with company values: humility, ambition, caring, excellence, inclusion, and belief that the work matters.
- Experience in fintech, financial services, or regulated product environments is a plus.
- Experience designing for caregivers, older adults, or people with complex needs is a plus.
- Familiarity with AI-powered product features and their UX considerations is a plus.
