Salary: USD 225,000 - 255,000 / annual

As Principal Electrical Engineer, you will serve as the department's technical authority on power distribution, power protection, and switchgear design for modular integrated electronics buildings and critical power infrastructure. This is a technical leadership role where you architect robust power systems, solve complex protection coordination challenges, and define the engineering standards and technical strategy for the electrical engineering team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Serving as the subject-matter expert for power distribution and switchgear design (low and medium voltage), leading high-level system architecture for modular data centers and power distribution centers
- Acting as the final decision-maker on complex code interpretations and ensuring strict compliance with NEC (NFPA 70), UL standards (1558/1670/891/508A), and IEEE standards
- Performing and overseeing critical power system studies including Short Circuit, Coordination, Arc Flash, and Load Flow analysis
- Designing and validating complex protection schemes, selecting and configuring protective relays (SEL, ABB, etc.)
- Conducting deep-dive technical reviews of designs produced by the engineering team as the final quality gate before fabrication
- Providing expert mentorship to Staff and Senior Electrical Engineers, elevating technical capabilities and fostering future leaders
- Developing and maintaining the department's electrical design standards, specifications, and best practices
- Partnering with Manufacturing and Product Management to align technical capabilities with long-term business goals and drive innovation in modular power solutions
You will move beyond day-to-day drafting to architect systems, solve complex challenges, and lead the technical direction of the team. This role is open to relocation.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE); Master's degree (MSEE) with focus on Power Systems and active Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred
- 10–15+ years of progressive experience in electrical engineering, specifically focused on switchgear design and modular infrastructure
- Deep understanding of switchgear construction, bus bracing, thermal management, and insulation requirements for both LV and MV equipment
- Demonstrated mastery of power protection theory, including symmetrical components, relay coordination, fault current, and arc flash mitigation techniques
- Proven ability to lead technical teams through complex engineering challenges, providing authoritative direction and first-principles problem-solving
- Exceptional ability to communicate complex electrical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, executive leadership, and customers
- Safety and compliance: This position is designated safety-sensitive and requires drug and alcohol program participation
BONUS QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience representing organizations on technical committees (IEEE, NFPA, UL)
- Extensive experience with EPlan or AutoCAD Electrical for schematic integration
- Experience with PLC/SCADA integration as it relates to power automation
