Zscaler is seeking a Principal Backend Engineer to join the Analytics team in Tel Aviv. This role reports to the Manager of Software Engineering and focuses on building and evolving the Avalor platform, which curates and contextualizes data from hundreds of security and business tools to help enterprises understand and address their riskiest problems.
You will design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services within a microservices architecture using Scala and Java/Spring Boot. Key responsibilities include optimizing performance, cost, and reliability of production services while managing data across Snowflake, Trino, and Apache Iceberg. You'll drive innovation in semantic layers, query optimizations, and analytics capabilities, working cross-functionally with product, UX, and frontend teams to deliver high-scale features from inception to production. A significant part of this role involves mentoring junior engineers and elevating the team's technical capabilities through high-accountability partnership.

REQUIREMENTS:
- 8+ years of proven backend development experience with focus on robust, tech-driven data-intensive solutions
- Experience designing and developing microservices architecture using AWS, Kubernetes, Queues, various databases, and Tilt
- Strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to solve complex problems in dynamic environments
- Self-driven approach to exploring new technologies and driving innovation
- Demonstrated curiosity and active exploration of AI tools, with proven history of integrating new technologies into workflows
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- B.Sc. in Computer Science or related field
- Expertise in query optimization, data analytics, and building semantic layers
- Expertise in performance optimizations in data-intensive environments
