Megazone Cloud US is seeking a Principal AWS Cloud Architect to lead technical strategy and delivery on customer cloud engagements. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll own the technical direction of workstreams end-to-end, working with customer technical teams to define and drive toward documented target states.
You will lead and mentor blended onshore/offshore delivery teams while remaining deeply technical. You're expected to roll up your sleeves when needed—designing landing zones, executing migration waves, writing and reviewing Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and troubleshooting complex issues. You'll be equally comfortable leading a team of engineers or working independently as the sole architect on a project.
Key responsibilities include:
**Technical Leadership & Strategy:** Own engagement technical strategy and act as the primary technical point of contact for customer leadership. Make and document consequential architecture decisions with clear trade-off analysis. Set engineering standards by personally reviewing designs, code, and IaC. Recommend best-fit approaches prescriptively, backed by delivery experience.
**Hands-On Delivery:** Work independently on smaller or early-phase engagements. Step in hands-on to build foundational environments, execute migration waves, troubleshoot replication and cutover issues, and write Terraform/CDK. Lead remediation when workstreams need stabilization.
**Team Leadership & Offshore Coordination:** Lead and coordinate offshore engineering teams across time zones. Assign and sequence work, set clear acceptance criteria, and run effective handoffs. Review offshore deliverables for quality before reaching customers. Mentor consultants and engineers to raise technical depth and delivery discipline. Partner with Engagement Managers to build achievable project plans. Contribute to development of new delivery offerings and best practices.
**Foundational Architecture:** Design and deploy AWS foundational environments using Control Tower and Landing Zone Accelerator (LZA). Define multi-account strategy covering AWS Organizations, OU structure, account vending, SCPs, centralized logging, and security tooling. Implement IAM, Identity Center, guardrails, and security baselines.
**Migration Execution:** Lead discovery and assessment of on-premises estates. Determine right migration strategy per workload (rehost vs. replatform). Lead lift-and-shift replication using AWS Application Migration Service (MGN). Direct replatforming onto managed AWS services. Own hybrid connectivity design including Direct Connect, Site-to-Site VPN, Transit Gateway, DNS, and Active Directory integration. Oversee storage and database migrations. Set standards for IaC, pipeline automation, and operational readiness. Produce and review design documents, migration runbooks, diagrams, decision records, and hand-over guides.
The company emphasizes servant leadership, flat organization structure, direct impact on technical roadmap and client success, and a learn-from-mistakes culture.
**Requirements:**
- 15+ years designing and operating infrastructure, including 5+ years in a lead or principal architect role on customer-facing engagements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or similar
- Demonstrated hands-on AWS depth with personal experience building production systems (not just managing teams)
- Proven ability to work independently as sole architect from design through delivery
- Experience leading and mentoring offshore or distributed engineering teams
- Experience setting technical strategy for engagements and coordinating with customer technical leadership
- Hands-on experience building AWS foundational environments: Control Tower, Landing Zone Accelerator, AWS Organizations, multi-account architecture
- Demonstrated experience with large-scale, multi-wave cloud migrations
- Practical experience executing rehost and replatform migrations with judgment to recommend right approach per workload
- Hands-on experience with AWS Application Migration Service (MGN), AWS Migration Hub, and VM Import/Export
- Strong AWS networking fundamentals: VPC design, routing, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect/VPN, DNS
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform and AWS CDK) and at least one scripting language (Python, Bash, or PowerShell)
- Current ability to review code and IaC, not just architecture diagrams
- Excellent communication skills for both customer executives and engineering teams
- Active AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional certification required
- Additional AWS Specialty certification (Security, Advanced Networking, or Machine Learning) is a plus
- Experience with AWS Transform (including AWS Transform for VMware) is a significant plus
